save selection as .dwg or .3ds

Hi
I've created an object in Archicad, and now wish to export it as a .dwg or .3ds file so that someone with Autocad can use it. I know I can use Save selection as... to make it a gsm, but can´t seem to find a way to save it as a dwg. Please help!
Thank you!

Start a new project, copy-paste your selection and save as DWG from there.

I am presuming it's a 3d object, yes? If so, select and show it in the 3d window and save as .3ds or .dwg.....

Thanks guys,
I tried both your options but my friend (the one who needs the object in autocad) can't open it in 3d... does he need to import it in some special way?
I run Archicad 12, he runs autocad 2012 version. Thank you!

In the DWG/DXF Translation Setup Dialog you can specify what DWG format the file should be saved.
Try to set it to an earlier version line AutoCAD 2000. Your friend may be able to read that.
