xrefs and hotlinks

Why is it that a dwg xref'd into a archicad file will remove its created layers after it is removed from a file when a archicad hotlink will not do the same. It seems xref, which is from autocad, has much better control than archicad's own hotlinked method!!! go figure.

Probably because it is very bad practice to have the hotlinked module file have a different attribute set then its host file.
So normally your module file has the same attributes as the host file it is hotlinked into.
