I always push our staff to model enough information to hold up at 1/4" = 1'-0" (1:48) scale. This seems to be a good dividing point where the model can be quickly edited, yet have reasomably complete drawings.

The question came up about windows. They may look good at 1/4", but at larger 3/4" or 1" scales, they do not show enough detail, or may be flat-out wrong.

The idea that I proposed was this:
Assuming the modeled window is at least close to accurate, use the modeled window for 1/4".
At 3/4" or other large scales, set the Display Option for Doors & Windows to "Ceiling Plan" mode. This leves the opening in the wall, but allows whatever 2D detail is needed to be added without worrying about the modeled content behind.
