2D info disappearing in Details

Zendrix

I have been working on these details with lines and fills and suddenly, from nowhere and without "rebuild from source" or hiding any layers or anything, a bunch of info just stopped showing on my 2D details. The funny thing is that it keeps showing the correct info in the LAYOUT, where i have my collection of details placed and organized.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Z

You are probably opening the detail with a viewpoint rather than a View.  Placed details on layouts always come from Views.  Remember that Views contain all settings - layers, model view options, etc etc... Viewpoints in the Navigator contain none of that.

Once your project Views are defined... pretty much (99%) always work from the Views tab of Navigator to assure that what-you-see-is-what-you'll-get.

The easiest/fastest way to edit a placed drawing via its view is to right-click the drawing on the Layout and choose one of the context menu options shown here:

Then, you are right where you need to be.  When multiple drawings on on a layout, particularly details, I like the "Open source View with Layout as Reference" option... so that I can be sure that whatever annotation I do lines up attractively with adjacent drawings.  Also, in the case of clipping polygons on the Layout, I can be sure that my content will actually be displayed.

Hi!

I dragged and dropped the details from the "VIEW MAP", and not the "PROJECT MAP" (I think that was what you were referring to). And i was always going back to the Detail section in View Map in order to adjust lines and fills in my section, so that they updated in the layout.

Hi Karl!

Yes, i use the open source view most of the times, and i am also using the layout as a reference in my details, which is very helpful.

But the center of the discussion is not being addressed, which is: how come my detail source view has missing lines but the layout is showing them correctly? That does not make any sense.

Cheers,

Z

I was just trying to clarify how you were opening the source view, since missing content is a common thing for newcomers not familiar with Views…and I had no way of knowing from your post what your experience level is or how you were opening the detail 😊

Now that you’ve clarified… I’m stumped.   If it was layers, renovation status or change manager, the saved view would have addressed all of that.

@Barry Kelly …any ideas?

You did well, im actually new to archicad but have been getting a grip on some basic proper workflows,  and i am familiar with the workflow you describe, and i thank you for that.

Regarding the missing info, its a bit odd. I would believe that opening the view from the "View Map>Details" folder would be the same as clicking on "open source view", right?

Oddly enough, i used again the "open source view" and voila!, the information popped right back. Now, when i open again from the "View map>Detail" folder, the drawing is showing the info it was not showing before this operation.

Cheers,

Z

Correct.

I am not sure what is happening either.

Seems like it was just glitching.

Hard to say without it happening to me as well, which is not very likely as I never (hardly ever) use the detail or worksheet tools, simply because they are not live.

I tend to use actual sections and when it comes to a large scale detail, I will draw it myself (or use a pre-drawn detail).

We are experiencing missing info in details as well from time to time, mostely measurements.

We are quiet experienced with the concept of views but ArchiCAD has some shortcomings in this area with details.

Not all settings can be defined like it is possible with floor plans. With details i can save and change layer settings but not structural settings (just core / without cladding...) as it is grayed out.

So sometimes we have plans with missing info in details but just on half of the ArchiCAD clients of our team.

This error appears random and the GS support had no real advice.

Correct.

Structural display, Graphic Overrides and Renovation Filters are all controlled from the source.

I think teamwork complicates matters even more.

I have read other posts where settings and information change between team members.

But I do not use teamwork so have never looked into it myself.

Also be careful with dimensions in details.

Dimensions associate to the nodes you select as you dimension.

If those nodes are not present for any reason, then the dimensions will not show.

Details are not live so you must 're-build from source'.

I am wondering if something is moving and losing the dimension associativity?

Just my theory.

I don't use details or worksheets either.
