3D SECTIONS

Hellow everyone. I am new to archicad and have a question concerning the 3d sections. I know how to create a 3d cutaway etc. but I am having a hard time figuring out how to get it to my layout so that it is scaled and has the same view as my 2d section. I would like to have a 2d and 3d of the same cut. I am using ach11 latest build, latest libr. windows version.

The easiest / most accurate way of generating 3D sections is to use the bold marquee, snapping the marquee to the actual section line. When you memorize a view (axo or perspective) - or redefine it - with the marquee in place, the marquee is part of the memorized view. Place the view on your layout.

What exactly are you trying to do? If you want to overlay a 2D and 3D section this requires a few tricks. You can align the 3D section by snapping the marquee tool to the nodes of the section marker (I'm pretty sure this will work, but you can also draw a fill and magic wand the marquee to it). Then set up your 3D viewpoint to match the section. This may be a little tricky since it will be a forced axonometric view to make the cut axes line up with the 2D section and still show depth. It's best to set your section to zero depth to prevent elements beyond from getting drawn on top of the axon view.

Thanks guys. Using the marquee really helped in getting the exact cutaway I need. However, my problem is getting the 3d view the same as the 2d and then getting the scale on the layout the same. Is it possible in the axonometry view to use the Lookto and get an exact perpendicular view as you would have in 2d when the section is generated? Again I am new so sorry if these are obvious questions.

I SHOULD EXPLAIN MY SCALE PROBLEM. I AM SAVING THE 3D CUTAWAY VIEW TO THE PROJECT VIEW MAP AT 3/16" = 1'-0" WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE MY 2D SECTION AT. HOWEVER WHEN I PLACE THE 3D ON THE LAYOUT IT SAYS ITS AT 3/16" BUT ITS ABOUT 1/4 THE SIZE OF THE ACTUAL 2D VIEW. AM I MISSING A STEP?

Are you using the "Frontal Axonometry" setting in the 3D view? This should scale correctly. (If you are using a perspective view all bets are off.)

1. Your 3D window should be in Internal engine, hidden line or shaded mode, contours on - draft is enough. Will take time.

2. Your view should be saved at the scale that you need (yes, axo and perspectives too DO have scale, although it is nowhere to be seen on the 3D window frame)

3. Your projection settings (CTRL F3 on Windows) should be isometric axonometry, with all the axes at 1 - none of them should be scaled.

Now save the view. It should work.
