Creating Working Drawing Sections

Hi All,

Interested to know opinions on everyone's workflow for creating sections. Previously I worked in Revit and Created sections straight from the model (i'e a live section) and added 2d detail onto the live section (Dimensions, notes, 2d detail items like Coursing blocks, DPC's, Cavity Trays etc). Pro's the section is live and tied to the model geometry, if storey levels need to adjust as the engineer provide steelwork details etc this can be adjusted on the elevations and sections as they are all model based. Cons you end up 'patching' model inconsistancies and DWG exports are hard work for other consultants

The office I now work in for the last 7 years is an ArchiCAD office. ArchiCAD as a lot more 2d tools than Revit. The Office here primarily uses the live section of the model as a trace reference and create independent sections out of 2d linework much like a normal CAD Section. Pros - Easier to export and the drawing looks more correct as you dont have to solve every model issue (which takes time) Cons - Takes Longer and doesnt feel like the point of the software to then just draw a 2d section.

What does everyone else do

Thanks

We use the live Model cut and add: fills, 2d lines and elements & all annotation directly in place.

We have pretty much gone to using complex profiles for our building shell, and putting alot of the detail into these complex profiles, which saves us some 2d work.

For our section details, we are still using the live section cut, just with a different layer combination, which has further 2d details & annotation that is hidden from the overall section.

There are some instances where fills have to be used to cover up something that doesn't clean up perfectly on these larger scale drawings.
