As I have never experience this issue I don't have any advice on what might be going on or how to fix it.
However, to answer this question effectively, you will need to tell the forum your AC version and equipment as it may well make a difference in the answer. Look at my signature below for an example of the information needed.

A pdf file size does not necessarily correlate to complexity.
Slowness might depend on hardware and other specifics like not enough hard disk space, ram, operating system, video card.
Also Archicad version has to do with it I know that AC08 was a pain and 6.5 could not read Pdf and having the latest updated version might help with the problem.
So recommended list is:
Check that your Operating System is up to date
that you have enough RAM
that your Video Card drivers are up to date
that your AC version can import pdfs and it is up to date
You migh try restarting your computer and making sure that there are no other applications running.
You can also print the pdf using Preview or Acrobat or Cute Pdf.
