Automatic dimensions in Interior Elevations?

cocoloco

Hi I have sooo many rooms and cabinetry and I need to show dimensions (cabinetry, sinks, other details heights etc.) . I know archicad has automatic dimensioning but it seems not working in interior elevations? This seems like a lot of time I have to put into documentation and wonder if there is a tool that could help me to speed up my process.

It would be also so helpful if the dimensions line would have some automatic location (distance from drawings), because when I add it manually, some are closer/some are further and when they are together on layouts, then it looks very messy and I have to manually arrange them... Quite painful process.

Any help is appreciated! 🙂

No easy solution unfortunately.

The automatic dimension tool is looking for walls that touch an exterior wall all walls that cross a line that you define.

It doesn't work for objects.

As for placing a known distance, you can finish your dimension with the double click.

Hover your mouse over the point you want to measure from, type x or y to constrain that axis, type the distance (tracker must be active) then + or - depending on the direction you want to go.

Thank you Barry. I am using CI cab tools and it’s very difficult to find their snap points. For example 1 cabinet that includes 5 types of cabs/drawers, I can easily snap the fillers in sides but once I am in the middle of the cabinet it is almost impossible and always VERY OFF and I have to really really (really) zoom in, to find myself the center in between the cabs. I just spent one day just with adding dimensions to project because I had to basically manually find the center points myself. Ufff

I will try this method you suggested it clearly should be faster to check the cabs size and reenter that manually 😁

I don't use CI cabinets, so I am not familiar with them or exactly what you are trying to dimension, but if you have your snap guides active and set to 'half', then you should get a little marker at half distance on the lines as you touch them.

You can then dimension to the line itself, the end of the line or the mid point quite easily.
