Builder Dimension 10?

Anonymous
Not applicable
Anyone out there using the "builder dimension 10" as the marker for their doors and windows. I don't really care for the current marker style options and the lack of a moveable hotspot so I'm scripting my own.

All of my work is in imperial units but I want to make some metric styles as well. The current builder dimension 10 only has a metric option for centimeters....For those of you who work in metric, do you only use centimeters??? If not, what units do you use?

Thanks,
Dan K

In this country, millimeters is standard in the building industry. Thus, no need - ever - for decimal points, fractions or whatever. Som extraneous zeros, Ok, but it's worth it. No questionmarks.

Thomas,
thanks for the reply...In talking with some of my "metric" friends, millimeters is what they told me as well. I'm curious why graphisoft's builder dimension 10 only has options for centimeter.

Now I'm wondering if the builder dimension 10 marker is different in the ArchiCAD INT version? Does your version have marker options for only inch or centimeter?

Thanks,
Dan K

AFAIK It's only available in the US Library and is only available in centimeters.

Link and Archiben,
Thanks for checking into the INT versions. I guess I'm suprised its not available everywhere...In the US we use this quite often in residential "builder sets" in lieu of scheduling all the windows. Is this not the case internationally?

As far as it being only available in the US Library, I don't know why Graphisoft even bothered to add the Metric alternative...especially since it's limited to centimeters.

I'm attaching an image of a window/door marker that I scripted for my personal work. After seeing the limitations of Builder Dimension 10, I've been thinking of polishing it up with some more metric alternatives and making it available on ObjectsOnline.

Its hard to tell how many, if any users, really use the builder dimension markers...I guess I'm curious if this is something that ArchiCAD users would be interested in.

I think that's a great idea Dan.

Please don't forget those users who like their 'Fractions in small type' as per the Dimension Preferences, if that's even possible in GDL.

You know, I think the best way to gauge just how many people will use it is by providing it free here at the Object Depository! I'm sure there'll be plenty of takers!

Cheers,

Link,
I do have a superscript style but not for my "Classic" marker style. I had to "jump through some GDL Hoops" to even get what I got. Unfortunately the text2 command in GDL does not support superscript...It might be possible with PARAGRAPH strings and RICHTEXT commands, but I'm not sure.

As far as providing it for free goes...HMMM,I'm not sure...I've been givin' stuff away free for years now. I gotta figure out some way to pay for my Starbuck's coffee habit.

Surely, for the price of a few Cappuccinos, anyone who needed it would buy it.

We'll take what we can get Dan.

You don't have to tell me about giving stuff away for free - over 1350 posts and not a cent to show for it!

Don't even start me about Escribe (ArchiCAD-Talk's predecessor). Many more posts there and I used to pay to get rid of the banners!

Still, man is not a camel. You do whatever you please. Just remember, like a bad divorce, they will take half!

Cheers,
