Dimensioning with a Tick/Dot

Does anyone know how to create a dimension with a tick at one end and a solid dot at the other. I am able to create a tick and an empty dot, but not a solid dot. I can get 2 solid dots as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only way I know of would be to use an object (I think there was one on objects online) instead of dimensions.

The dimension tool always places the same mark on both ends.

You could also explode the dimension and manually change one end.

Ok, so the workaround that we came up with is to use the tick dot dimension style. If you set your marker size to 6.25 and put the tick on a pen with a width of 2.5 of bigger it will create a dot with fill on one end and a tick on the other. The dot with the fill is really just a circle with the thickness to fill it in.

Possibly an easier way to do it is to define your dimension line with tics first, then explode with 'Keep original elements too.' Move the original still associative dimension line and change the endpoint to the desired dot. Explode that new dimension line. Erase the tic mark in the first dimension line & drag the dot into position.
That should work.

Scott,

While that would work, we are trying to avoid letting our users even know that archicad can explode things. Thank you for the suggestions and promt responses though.

You do realize that this is an entirely different method in that it adds the dimensions as it goes along the chain, right?

It's a real pity this is so difficult to achieve. We can click on a single dimension node and change it's witness line gap/length, but not the arrowhead selection. Might be time for a wish?

Yes unfortunately we are aware of that....it sucks. Right onw that seems to be the best way to do it without confusing the 400 users at our firm. At least this way we can make a favorite and specify which favorite to use and when.

400??

With that amount of users you probably have more wishing power than all of us combined. You should have a red phone straight into the fortress!

I hope you do submit a wish for either customizable ticks or just to change the ticks for individual dimension nodes.

Cheers,

...and leader line types. I am tired of turning off the leader in order to add a centerline.
