Elevation lineweights

What is the best way to show thinner/wider lineweights in elevation so the drawings appear closer to farther away.
I've done it in section, but nothing seems to work in elevation. Is that something I would have to set up in the pen weights in each wall? That would seem to be very time consuming.

I also outline. With the hatching on, I outline the foreground planes, leave the middleground alone, and use the marked distant area for the back. I use a black hairline instead of grey. This gives three levels which is usually enough.

Matthew, I've tried that method, but I've found that on a complex model (lots of curvy trim) I get erratic results even with the model perfect. With a lot of straight stuff, it's definitely worth it. If you use linked sections, it's no trouble to keep an unlinked one just for the purpose.

If people are interested I can post a PDF showing the technique later when I get to the office.
Neat trick indeed, Matthew. Please do post when you get a chance.
Wow Matt, you really know how to steal a man's thunder! This is always an "eye-opener" and I was planning this "smoke and mirrors" for ACUWest... Damn... Guess I'll have to come up with something new... It did get some OOOhs and AAAhs at ACUE 2002....
