Graphic Overrides - cleanup

gdford

I am trying to figure out how to clean up unused graphic overrides and graphic override rules.
I see that I can run a report in the Drawing Manager that will list all of the drawings on layouts and the graphic overrides attached to those drawings.... So that is a start for the Basic overrides.

How might i go about to purge unused graphic override rules?
I am not finding any flags that tell me if a rule is in use or not?

Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Hi,

Hi,

I also would like to know if there is a way cleanup the rules of graphic overrides.

Would be amazing to have something like the attribute manager but for G.O. Where you can clean, merge, even replace items.

I agree - I am working on a project with hundreds of overrides and it is a nightmare to manage.

In the drawing manager, you can include the “graphical overlay” column to see which rules are active, and then you will know which ones you can delete.

honest question, why so many overrides?

Unfortunately GOR gets GORY or very messy for all of us who want simplicity in the control of all our line types and colouring options. I hope GS has a plan to simplify the whole process for all of us ?

Some you get from a template. Some you get by tweaking the ones you already have. Some you get whan you have hotlinks and you need to sync GOs from different files. Some you get because you make mistakes.

But I have the most trouble not with GOs as much as the rules which won't merge and the rules themselves are a convoluted mess. All Cover Fills - White. All Cover Fills White (1). All Cover Fills White (2). ERMAHGERRRRD

One way how to find which rules are used is to create a new .pln file where you can delete all the rules and combinations.

From your project, export .xml files of all used combinations and import them to the new file.

You will get only those rules that are used and you can compare it.

Maybe it could also be possible to just delete all rules and GOs in the original file but I would be afraid of missing GOs in view map.
