Grid tool and section marker display in section windows

I have been playing with some of the new feature in 10 and have a few questions that I have not been able to figure out. It appears that the view of the grid lines in the sect/elev window is controled individually within the setting dialog for each sect/elev window. This however is confusing, since some of these controls are adjusted by selecting the grid lines and using the grid line settings. Does anyone know of a way to make changes globally to all (or selected) sect/elev windows. I am having trouble figuring out how the grid lines is placed vertically relative to the position of the model. Without making any changes to the default setting the gird lines were placed 50 - 100' below my zero elevation of story one.

In addition I have tried to find the control which will allow me to see my section markers in the sect/elev window but have been unsuccessful. A search of the help menu and the manual has not helped. I recall that this was supposedly implemented in 10 and am excited about the feature. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Grid tool itsel has been updated. It has nothing to do with new hotfix.
The updated Goodies were released with the latest hotfix. I just re-downloaded, re-loaded, and the problem still persists...

That's interesting (well, I'm sure it's not for you). I found that selecting all of the grid parts and opening the dialog box allowed me to switch my bubble location from bottom of gridline to the top (Floor Plan and Section panel, under "Markers"), and adjust the length of the gridline (Marker panel, under the Geometry parameter). Moving and staggering the bubbles is done by dragging.

Or perhaps I am misunderstanding your problem.

bubble location -- yes
line length -- yes
vertical location -- no -- until today. Of course, what didn't work yesterday seems to be working today. Go figure.

UPDATE: I can manipulate the vertical location of the grid bubble, but still only by stretching, not by dragging. Dimension box within the Marker dialog has stopped re-setting itself after re-boot.

Hi guys,

I've got the same problem....grid marker is way off in section/elevation.

Found a little strange thing in the settings display box....it mentions 'story 15000'...where does that one come from..or...where is it?? I'm 110% sure of that the story doesn't exist in my file....

Huh -- mine always displays my active Story -1 (if I'm on Story 3, it displays "Story 2") which I believe has something to do with the difference between the USA and INT versions (where Story 1 = Storey 0), which could be confusing if you didn't know any better...

I think the benefits of the grid tool are still worth its idiosyncrasies, and I hope that in the future these shortcomings will be addressed. I have placed the grid tool in my template and pre-set everything to show as desired. However when I begin a new project and adjust the grid line locations in plan view, the elevation windows are not updated when I rebuild the section elevation window. My only work around has been to select and delete the grid lines in each section elevation window and then they will be "re-built" in the correct location. I hope I am just missing a check box somewhere since this is a bit of a hassle.

I agree with Mike that it is worth its idiosyncrasies. I have found some things that seem to be reliable and others that you have to mess with. I only modify settings for the Sect/Elev view of the Grid Elements from the Section/Elevation Settings. I do not maodify the setting for the Grid Elements themselves from within the Section/Elevation Window. The only thing that I do adjust is the length of the Detail Element marker lines.

...I just noticed that if you turn off the actual markers on the ends of the grids you can actually stretch them to their 'appropriate' location....when thats done..turn them back on....
Seems to work in all windows so far....

Wow, what a messed up tool this is. Been struggling for a while trying to get all the right combinations of settings in my various Section windows, now 2 of my 4 Elevation views don't display my grid

"Show grid elements" checked in elevation tool settings, Layer combinations are same, display settings same, Elevation markers are placed outside the extents of the grid, but that doesn't seem to matter on the other two elevations where the grid does display.

Any suggestions for settings I may have missed please?

For me it works if I make a 'dummy' grid perpendicular to the section/elevation and regenerate the elevation/section in a new window....once they display I can delete the 'dummy' one and the rest stays...

...but yeah, it certainly is a bit messy....
