Grid tool and section marker display in section windows

I have been playing with some of the new feature in 10 and have a few questions that I have not been able to figure out. It appears that the view of the grid lines in the sect/elev window is controled individually within the setting dialog for each sect/elev window. This however is confusing, since some of these controls are adjusted by selecting the grid lines and using the grid line settings. Does anyone know of a way to make changes globally to all (or selected) sect/elev windows. I am having trouble figuring out how the grid lines is placed vertically relative to the position of the model. Without making any changes to the default setting the gird lines were placed 50 - 100' below my zero elevation of story one.

In addition I have tried to find the control which will allow me to see my section markers in the sect/elev window but have been unsuccessful. A search of the help menu and the manual has not helped. I recall that this was supposedly implemented in 10 and am excited about the feature. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Do they happen to be views from the right (East)? Of all the projects that I've migrated (5) the East elevation is always the one missing the grid lines. I end up making a new East view.
"Show grid elements" checked in elevation tool settings, Layer combinations are same, display settings same, Elevation markers are placed outside the extents of the grid, but that doesn't seem to matter on the other two elevations where the grid does display.
I believe that the grids are only supposed to show if the section marker crosses them in plan; however, I have noticed that in some views this is not the case.

Sorry, no help.

OK. I almost have this thing figured out. I can get the grids and markers where I want them with no problem, but:
1. Dimensions do not show up where I want them, and if I move them in Section / Elevation, they return to the original place after I come back to that view.
2. I cannot keep the changes made to the colors & linetypes in Section / Elevation.

Any changes made in plan seem to stay put.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix these few things?

This happens on view from Top (North) and Left (West). Weird. I could almost understand it if it were two views looking at the same grids from opposite directions, but not two views perpendicular to each other.

Change the colours and Linetypes in the Grid Tool as well as the Section / Elevation Tool.

Attached are my settings (from the Section / Elevation Tool settings) that give me a decent display. I have underlined the numbers that seem to make the most difference. Sorry, they are metric but you should get the idea. I'm not entirely sure why the Marker's Distance figure needed to be negative, but it worked. Also, the 5000 doesn't seem to relate to anything. The dimension from floor level to dimension line is actually 6500mm (could be the 5000+1500) but the end of the Gridlines is 7310 above FFL. ? I did stretch all Gridlines to 10000 length too, which they do measure end-to-end, and they do stay in place, which is the most important thing.

Hope some of this makes sense, and helps someone.

I've just downloaded the 987 version of the Grid Tool add-on and the Hotlinking/curved grid elements bug is apparently still there. Have emailed files to GS again so hopefully will hear back soon.

Has no-one else tried using a Hotlinked grid with curved grid elements?
cheers,

i assume that you've only turned the grid marker heads on for the north and west sides of the grid rather than all the way around?

the grids seem to be some kind of 2.5 dimensional object: so if the view is looking away from the marker heads (i.e. the marker heads are behind the section line) they won't show?

is that the issue?

Do you mean both ends of the gridline? Both are on - see pic.

I have seen the same problems with the grid not showing up right in the s/e window. so I deleted the ones there turned off the show grid in S/E menu. Then i went back and used the grid tool(goody version) to manually place the grid lines. Got them all working and looking good and when I go to another drawing and come back they are gone. so I worked several hours doing all the elevations and when I went to update the drawings they were not there. All my goodies and Archicad are updated. It is truly frustrating because the other grid tool is not easy to use because they are not one element it only creates an object and lines. I the Grid tool worked right it sure would be wonderful.

Something that I have discovered after a lot of trial & error:

When the grid doesn't naturally show up in your section / elevation, try the following:

1) goto the plan view that shows grids & section markers

2) make sure to unlock ( and turn on) the layer grid element is on.

3) select the section marker, right click, & open in new window.

This should show the grid element in the section window. Of course, it will show up maybe a few hundred feet below your section / elevation, w/ the bubble at the bottom.

4) Select all the grid elements in the section view, and goto properties (Ctrl+T).

5) Put a number (I put about 3') for "staggering" distance, and reverse the check marks in the "Marks" for the bubble location.

6) select the grid element, and stretch the top & bottom pink diamond hot spots to wherever you want.

Hope this helps -
