Is there a way to lock the Renovation filter to NEW Construction?

I keep seeing that the Renovation Filter keeps jumping back to "Existing" which is causing problems for all our new users. Is there a way to make NEW he default and keep it that way since we are currently working on NEW construction projects?

You mean the default 'renovation status' for all newly placed elements keeps changing?
The renovation filters themselves will only change if you change them - either manually or by opening a view (in view map) and that will set the reno filter for that view.

The renovation status will not change unless you change to a reno filter that has that status turned off.
So if you set the status to 'new' but activate the 'after demolition' filter, the 'new' will be hidden (turned off) and the 'existing' status will be switched on - it has to be on of the 3 status and can't be one that is turned off.
The problem is when you switch back toe a reno filter that has all the status on, it will remain on 'existing' and won't switch back to 'new'.

If you are working on 'new. construction projects and you are not worried about renovations, then set the status to 'new' and use a reno filter that 'shows all elements'.
Make sure your views are all set to this 'show all elements' filter and you should not have any problems - unless you manually change the reno filter.

In fact with 'show all elements' filter it doesn't matter what the status is as you are always showing all.
It is the closets thing we have to turning off or ignoring the reno filters altogether.

Thanks for that Barry. Now that you say that, I realize that all of my saved views likely are a mix of Reno filter settings. I will need to go through and checked all of my saved views for the template. The more I developed our template, the more work it is to make even small changes. That will take some time. Sometimes a little knowledge can be dangerous. There is sooo much to learn to make Archicad efficient for production. I can now see the need for a separate template for projects with additions and renovations.

I wish there was a way to edit/review all views together like a spreadsheet with selection boxes for each of the view settings.

You can select all views in the view map and change them all at once.
It will say "various" for the reno filter if they are all different.
Then just change it to what you want.

After sleeping on it I realize that it is not the Rono Filters I am having trouble with, but the "Element Default" that keeps changing between "Existing Status" and "New Status". I have several newer users that have become confused by this. I thought I set all to New Status, but I find that their projects are all Existing Status. I go to the 3D window and select all and change the status. Then deselect everything and set the default to New Status. I was wondering if I could "lock" the Status on their behalf to avoid further confusion with more settings to watch. Do any settings control the Default Element Status?

My problem may have more to do with training 3 people on 3 new projects with an imperfect template that may have started with the wrong status.

For what it's worth: I find that by default it is quite good to have Existing.

Only with actual renovation projects you will find yourself demolishing things and adding new things.

However for this, you still need to make a model for the existing building.

We have our entire template set up as Existing. If we have a renovation project we add a few 'New' and 'Demolish' folders to our view map for those views. You do get the 'bouncing' around of the new / existing default status a bit then by opening different views (mostly from new to existing). But at this point it is generally easy to spot elements on the wrong status when switching around the different status filters.

Bonus of making completely new project as existing is when your client returns 4 years later to have you design some addition, you already have your existing plans ready to go.

Yes, I actually do the same thing.

As I explained before, the status changes when you set a filter that turns off your current status.
And it does not necessarily change back when you change the filter again.
That is why you use a filter that shows all and set all of your views to use this filter.

Or I just thought you could create 3 new filters (if they are not there already).
One turns on new and hides existing and to be demolished.
Second one turns on existing and hides new an to be demolished.
Third shows to be demolished and hides new and existing.
Now you can select any of these filters and it will reset the status to the one that is showing, as it can’t be any of the hidden ones.

I would still set all of you views to show all if you do not intend to use the Reno filters.

I have adopted the Shoegnome Template by Jared Banks, which tends to favor the New Status to display as a new addition or a totally new structure with walls hatched, while existing walls display as empty. I thought that it would not make a difference and like you, set the status to default to existing for a new construction project. But I was getting the display of the floor plan that I wanted. So for the way he has it set up, I will keep the new, new and the existing, existing for all types of projects.

Ok, I see that now after cycling through my Reno Filters. Each of the three Element States have three possible settings (Show/Hide/Override). If the current one gets hidden, the status changes and does not change back, which is the problem. I have 8 states saved. I wish that the "default" status would at least spring back to the default I choose. Something else to watch
