PlotMaker + OpenType Font + Amyuni = Garbage?

Hi all,

If I try and "save" a PDF from PlotMaker? using a OpenType? font(Frutiger) I get garbage characters in the PDF. If I print the PDF my output is fine. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

I already tried setting the preferences of the amyuni print driver to "embed fonts" but that didn't do it.

Thanks,
Chris

I have attached an example...

Have the same experience with Adobe's Graphite OpenType font.

Examining the PDF file the problem seems to be that the encoding is set to "custom" and I think this is the key to the problem, but couldn't solve it.

I gave up on the OpenType fonts (on Windows), and use only truetype fonts.

I'm not sure if it is the Amyuni driver or the PlotMaker bug/feature, but didn't investigate further since I couldn't correct it either way.

Luckily there are plenty of good enough truetype fonts, and switching the fonts on a complete documentation set (ported from Mac platform) didn't take more than two hours.

According to Graphisoft R+D this is a known issue and the workaround is to either print to PDF and/or use another PDF product.

My reaction is the saem as yours...back to Arial....

1., If you print to pdf in publisher, you'll get a one page document, because each "print" would overwrite the other (it took me just a little experimentation to find it out- wasn't a pleasant surprise, good thing it wasn't in front of client:)

2., If the encoding is good when printing to PDF, than it is a publisher bug, in which case another pdf software ain't likely the solution, but it might keep the natives back for a while...

Yes, "get Acrobat Professional" (To have D size and E-size format) will make some people shut up for a while: the guilt factor. Then again: there might be a couple of products inbetween: between the free which doesn't work, to the Acrobat Pro boiling the scottish blood...

I've seen one in Staples...

1) yes. i am quite aware of this. maybe instead of "workaround" i should have said "terrible replacement solution."

2) i like PDF995 as an acrobat lite product. but we really need the amunyi functionality...so Arial it is...
