QUESTION: Beams/Steel holes in schedules/preview

 I want the 2d preview of a beam eg flat bar for windows with masonry over, to indicate the holes that have been placed in beam...but they dont show up when annotating etc despite model view options etc

Couldnt see any mention in manual

In annotate

In FP

In 3d

In structural view

Is anyone able to confirm this is at least an issue? Then I could escalate to bug

The 2D preview of linear elements is just a sample 1000mm long view, not the actual top view of the beam.

With greatest of respect...but why?

If it is of no functional use and diametric in its ability to convey BIM...then what is it doing there? Diametric to the expected convention of preview of eg doors windows.

Also, anyone who is doing masonry with block work and fabricated steel ie for tie down penetrations would need the shop drawings...a schedule with annotation is a very efficient way to do this...

Please remove it if its not compliant with design intent of the software (GS)!

I just had a quick look in the help reference but I didn't see anything there.

I am sure it is mentioned somewhere (at least I hope it is).

I have been testing Archicad for many years so I would have come across it when interactive schedules were introduced.

It is because linear elements maybe short, long, low or very high.

And in the case of many (walls , beams, etc.) they may be trimmed, to roofs, or have SEO or holes or be curved, etc.

It would be almost impossible to control a true 2D/3D view in the schedules with all these sizes and options, which is why we just have samples.

And generally with walls and beams, you will have many of different lengths an heights, but they all look the same, hence just the sample previews.

Except in your case where you do want to see the actual views.

Door, windows and objects do show a true preview.

Using object for plates and lintels may be an option.

Sorry that doesn't help you, but I did notice you are good with the wishes.

The thing is...for shop drawings, they just zoom the pdfs and just need to be a true plan view. Height is irrelevant for shop drawings and installer using the structural model. Its just for fabrication and not a bit deal

What I mean is, they will run the cutlist first and then do drill machine etc.

Ive been doing GDL since 97 and objects just arent the right thing. ie The beams and columns are all defined with priorities and building mats which automatically cut etc. You would then have to use booleans everywhere to achieve similar and added complexity for no gain...for now I will just go through the pain for a FP steel detail of each piece...but it shouldnt be this hard
