Sorting drawings/views/layouts

A good approach for ordering your work at the navigator.

Archicad automatically (when) created stores the elevation in the elevation folder, the same goes for sections and so on.

When there are a differentiation of various building, blocks, typologies and structures the ordering might be different when there are a lot of variations.

With Archicad the ordening is done automatically per drawing type. When there are a lot of variations then the ordering types list can become quite large.

A subdivision or different custom ordening would then give a better overview. When made manually Archicad still keeps it’s regular ordening per type.

In this matter Archicad seems a bit rigid. Is there only one ordening method with all of the pros and cons or could it be something different? And how does the ordening system hold itself up between the linkages of the drawings and views?

In the Project Map, you have no say in the matter.

Storeys are in the storey folder, elevations are in the elevation folder, sections in the section folder, etc.

However with the View Map you can do what you want.

If you 'Clone' a folder, you will get exactly what is in that folder.

You can not delete individual views in that folder (the whole clone folder will delete), but you can rename them.

The advantage of a clone folder is you do not have to create new views if you add a storey or an elevation, etc.

It is added automatically for you.

The same if you delete them in the Project Map.

The clone folder is an exact copy of what is in the Project Map folder.

Otherwise you can create your own folders in the View Map and you can add exactly what you want into that folder.

It can be just stories or elevations, or it could be a mix of everything.

Dont know if its what you are looking for, but we add a prefix to diferent section types (each section marker has its own layer), so we have specific sections and prefixes for architectural sections, curtain wall sections, land work, foundations, etc.

This way the project map becomes less of a mess.

Folders, color coding, criteria based naming and the abilty to hide unused views in cloned folders would be great!
