I did something and suddenly there is no ghost wall moving with my cursor when I create, drag, copy etc. I just get a pencil on my first click and the wall is formed on my second click but the ghost doesn't appear in the process to show where it is headed. What did I do?

Might be some graphics driver problem.
Try updating to the latest version of the driver.

Also, you might have enabled OpenGL in 2D in your AC work environment (User Preference Schems / 2D Redraw Options). Some graphics drivers have problems with 2D OpenGL - causing the rubber-band lines to not appear ... and many of us have found that 2D OpenGL does not add any speed advantage anyway.
If enabled, try disabling.
(Note! 2D OpenGL has nothing to do with the OpenGL in the 3D window.)
