For those of us using multiple versions, or keeping V27 until we trust V28, it would be really nice if the icon was more different than it was for V27. For instance V26 was dark blue background with white slash, and V27 was opposite. Maybe V28 could be red or something. There's a lot to choose from in my icon tray...

There has been a long standing discussion about this and it even was acknowledged by GS employees. I don't get why the problem just gets worse and worse.

I like the old days where it had the version number.
Now I have to hover my mouse over the icons and wait to see the pop-up to know which version it is.
Or as suggested, there should be a very noticeable change in the icon.

You can easily fix that. Just go to the folder /Applications/GRAPHISOFT/Archicad 28 - Technology Preview/Archicad 28.app/Contents/Resources and open Archicad.icns and add a small 28. Go to ArchiCAD App-information and change the icon to the new one.
voilà:

I think that is a Mac only solution.
I see no icon file in a Windows system.

In Windows the icon is embebed in the exe file. You can make your own icon and subsitute that one with the program, but I think this is beyond the original question.

Thanks, I can see where it can be done in Windows now.
But this would be beyond the ability of most users (creating and saving and icon file).
And of course will only affect that one computer.

You are right, this is beyond ability of most users. It just could be done by Graphisoft, that the version-number is written in the Icon.

Definitely beyond my ability.
In my mind, Graphisoft should better differentiate as they did from 26 to 27.

Hi @rickharlan,
For Archicad 28 we are using a similar approach as with 25-26, with minimal changes. The main reason being is that we have to balance the icon design between functionality and brand consistency. Since the two contradicts each other we usually try to find a compromise, and only make bigger changes when we have the opportunity (e.g. 26-27 was possible because it's still in line with our brand since it uses the same logo and colors).
However this year we plan to release an official alternative for Archicad 28’s launch icon containing a version number here on Community, which can be changed by the user manually.
