Improved Distance Guides

New, improved Distance Guides is no more experimental and available for everyone by default. It comes with the following new features:

  1. Context sensitive Stretch & Move - Distance Guides recognize the longitudinal and perpendicular directions of beams and walls and offer stretch and move respectively based on the context.
  2. Relink Distance Guides freely - You can relink Distance Guides to virtually any supported points or edges that you can snap to during work.
  3. Door / Window Nominal Size and Axis Support - Distance guides support nominal size settings of doors and windows and will link by default based on these settings. You can also switch Distance Guides to link to Axis instead of the nominal sizes, better supporting workflows and design stages when that is the most important input.

I have another item for the Wishlist about the Distant Guides (I am sure others have thought of the same thing before, apologies I haven't read all about it).

I think the basic principle of the Distant Guides being sensitive to Walls, Columns and Grids does work in most situations.

But perhaps one could "force" the Distant Guides to appear against edges highlighted using the Snap Reference like on the screenshot attached.

Thanks.

I agree with this. I have had trouble using the distance guides with the design options. The guide seems to default to the main model objects rather than those linked to the current design option setting.

i agree Tony, the Guide lines should be controlled by snap reference (lines an points).

I think this is a brilliant idea! This should be the first priority above grids.

Hi @tkrepler_fjc,

Did you try to use Snap points/guides with Distance guide? I think distance guides can't read aligned or curved distance otherwise perpendicular one which can be adjusted by Snap guides as in this short video.

I know Mahmoud, hence the suggestion for the wishlist.

Wouldn't it be cool if it worked?
