Hi Guys,
jcrarch wrote:I have started a case on this situation. I looked, but I found no reports of contact to the North American support office. If you ever find something like this that seems buggy please contact your regional support office. Although we do our best to support from all angles there is no guarantee GRAPHISOFT will spot all issues in this forum. It is a place for users to discuss with other users.
1392 people have viewed my post & no one, NOT EVEN GRAPHISOFT! has come up with the answer as to why "MY MAGNET STOPPED WORKING"
So far it seems that the 2 of you (jcrarch and kevin b) are the only ones we know of with this issue. So for now I only have some broad suggestions:
• Just a hunch based on a previous bug in AC18 that is now fixed: Try clicking the Pick Up Parameters button (Eyedropper) once or more in the Standard Toolbar and then try to use the space bar for Quick Selection (Magnet) or Magic Wand. Let me know if that has an effect.
• Try creating a new user account on your Mac and login with it. See if the problem remains when you open a file in ArchiCAD. While this does not narrow things down by much, it at least lets you know if there is something on the System level that is wrong or if it is something in the User account that is amiss.
• If the above does nothing for the situation, next are the basic troubleshooting steps when something really odd is happening:
1. Store and Export your Work Environment for safekeeping.
2. Send in all changes on Teamwork projects; jot down your BIM Server address, username and password to re-enter later; and do a Preferences Cleaning.
STOP and test to see if the problem is gone.
3. Repair permissions on the OS Drive (typically "Macintosh HD") with Disk Utility
- Then go to Applications and click once on the Graphisoft folder to highlight it and right-click > Get Info ( CMD + I ).
- Set all listed names to Read & Write privilege.
- Also, click the padlock to make elevated changes and then click the settings button and choose "Apply to enclosed items" so as to make sure all files inside the Graphisoft folder have "Read & Write" permissions for all users.
STOP and test to see if the problem is gone.
4. Uninstall ArchiCAD or just move the ArchiCAD 18 folder to the trash.
5. Re-install ArchiCAD and the latest available update.
STOP and test to see if the problem is gone.
• Whenever I see a rare case on a Mac my eye first goes to the menu bar at the top of the screen to spot any icons of services that are not common. We have had cases where a French Dictionary app caused ArchiCAD to malfunction. Also, Colorful SideBar and the SIMBL environment have caused problems with AC. So look for any little widgets, add-ons, plug-ins to the OS X environment that might be out of the norm and disable them or remove them as a test. This excludes widely-used apps like Evernote, Dropbox, etc. I am referring to those little apps that provide tweaks to the OS.
I hope this helps somewhat in the meantime while I put my head together with my colleagues in Budapest.
Best regards,
