ARCHICAD 23 freezes after clicking Browse

Not applicable
I recently upgraded to ARCHICAD 23 - for those who have done so there is a new splash screen with three buttons at the top; New, Browse, and Teamwork

I hit Browse and the program just freezes or bug splats

Has this happened to anyone else?

And we have a solution! from the Graphisoft development team;

Thank you for the screenshots, that was a huge help! As I checked, the driver for Intel graphics card was not updated. The latest version is .7584, that can be found via this link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29274. It will update the graphics card used in client machine, which is Intel UHD Graphics 630.

In Intel's release notes, it is mentioned that: "Intermittent crash or hang may be observed when launching or closing ARCHICAD* application" has been fixed. Could you ask the client to update the graphics card driver to see if this can help with the issue? It does not sound like this has something to do with Sophos, but we suspect that maybe the process mentioned yesterday is blocking ARCHICAD at kernel level.
Unfortunately, for us, it seems this was a false dawn - the problem persists...

Latest update - the updated graphics card driver has solved the problem after all!

The explanation from Graphisoft regarding the situation between Sophos, Intel and ARCHICAD;

" At ARCHICAD startup, ARCHICAD requests for information from Intel's graphics driver. Unfortunately, this request is altered by Hitman Pro, therefore significantly slow down the process. Although this is not a wide-spread issue, we were aware of this and contacted Sophos and Intel. With Sophos, unfortunately, we couldn't find a common solution, but with Intel, we manage to fix it via a driver update. "

however, we still have an issue where picking the browse button at splash always prompts a bug splat, but this appears to be a known issue which, I am told, will be corrected at the next update!

I have it running on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 and I've been facing the same issue. I can't get past the browse, new, open part without it freezing completely. Even the bug reporter freezes!

Hi,

Thank you very much for your question and I am very sorry about the issue!

Could you clarify a bit more about how it happens on your machine? At which point does it freeze, after the splash screen, or after you click New/Browse?

Why did the Bug Reporter appear? Usually, the Bug Reporter only appears to report any unexpected quit/crash of ARCHICAD. Did you try to Force Quit ARCHICAD before the Bug Reporter shows up?

Thank you very much, and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,
Minh

We had the same problem (ArchiCAD 23 build 4006 w/ Windows 10 Pro). Hope this trick works:

1. Go to the desktop and find the AC23 icon (or go to the C Drive into C:/Program Files/Graphisoft/Archicad 23/archicad23.exe etc)
2. Right click on its icon and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
3. A box/screen will pop-up and select "run with recommended settings". ArchiCAD will open and type command-N and start a new project.
4. Draw something and save it with a name
5. Minimize AC23, go back to the desktop and on the same window that opened in the desktop, click on "Next" icon
6. After a couple of task bars, it will ask you whether you want to save changes, click ok.

Hope this works!

Hi Alex,

Thank you for sharing this workaround! This compatibility troubleshooting is usually used for old software that are no longer supported, or has difficulty running on the latest system. It is strange that it helps you to run ARCHICAD smoother There must be something that I'm not aware of. Anyhow, thank you very much for the great finding!

Have a nice day!

Minh

I have an issue when I have opened 5 instances of Archicad. If i start a new instance and select browse or teamwork button it hangs i have to end task on the task manager to get out.

Also my start screen doesn't update the projects showing are the same ones from a few weeks ago, I have opened up new projects but they are not showing on the recent projects. I have windows 10 so that is not an issue and it is up to date.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for your question!

5 ARCHICAD instances can be taxing for your system. As Ling suggested, could you have a look at Task Manager and see how much RAM does your computer have left at that point?

The recent project not showing up in startup dialog is a known issue to us. This problem should be fixed in the second update of ARCHICAD 23. It was caused by the file ACRecentList.lck file from %USERPROFILE%\GRAPHISOFT folder. Delete this one should make the newly opened project available again in the startup dialog.

Let me know if you have any further issues! Thank you very much!

Minh

Deleting the lock file worked, Thank You.

As far as my memory being a problem when I am having the problem I usually have 50% memory usage when I am having the problem. This is a new problem. A week or so ago I was able to have 6-8 projects open without problem.

Thanks!
