Adding a page border?

I know this is simple but I've looked on the help and can't find this. I want every page I design to have the same border around my drawings, I'm just printing onto A4 as a University project on studio acoustics. Can someone tell me where to find it and how to make sure it's always there? If I just put it on another layer will that work?

Marello:

The best approach is to use PlotMaker for your drawing output. Put the elements you want on every sheet (border, names, etc.) on a Master Sheet (in the Masters folder in the Navigator palette), then assign this master to your layout sheets.

I'm so sorry but I can't even find in the Plotmaker help how you get the documents you've drawn in Archicad into Plotmaker!!!!! I've just tried importing a.pne file I'd made but I'm not seeing what I've drawn in plotmaker, its just blank.

I'd really appreciate this help, the acoustical side of this is giving me enough headaches, it'd be nice if someone could just tell me how to get the drawing in!

Use File > Import to place drawings in the layouts.

You can import individual drawing files such as PMK (published from ArchiCAD) or DWG format, or directly from the ArchiCAD PLN file (the preferred method). To import the views from the PLN they have to be set up first in ArchiCAD.

This is very basic stuff that should be covered in any tutorial or training, so you may want to look into these. There should be a tutorial that came with ArchiCAD and you may also want to check out the training options in your area. A bit of training will go a long way toward helping you get more productivity sooner and make the most of your investment in ArchiCAD.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a student, and the program is provided by my Uni for the one module we do on room design. I can't see any tutorials in the Archicad menus, where do I find them? I can't really afford the time or money to pay out to learn a piece of software I'm only using for the next two weeks to be honest so a tutorial would be fantastic, I've got the hang of the drawing but I don't even know how to set up a view!

The tutorial is not typically installed with the program. It should be on the install disk, although it has sometimes shipped on a separate disk as I recall. Check with your professor to see what is available at your school.

I've just checked and it seems we don't have any tutorials. However I've found an online tutorial on plotmaker and now I've managed to get my drawings into it (finally!). However....despite setting plotmaker and archicad to A4 size my images are coming over at a much bigger size. When I try to resize them to fit onto my master sheet they don't resize they just dont display the area that I made smaller. Can anyone just quickly tell me how to resize it to fit on the page, then I'll have no need to hassle you again.

You can select the drawing you want to resize and go to Edit>Drawing Settings... This will bring up a dialog box, go to the bottom panel "Attributes" where you can "Fit to Paper" or "Fit to Layout", but your drawing will probably not be to any common scale (not a problem for perspectives, not so useful for plans and elevations). You can also change the scale of the drawing here. If the scale pop-up is grayed out, go to the panel above this one "Attribute Update Rules" to alter the option for changing the scale.

Reduce the scale of the ArchiCAD view so it fits on A4.

Not all scales fit on all paper sizes ...

Rescaling in PlotMaker can be considered quick and dirty solution; you should get into the habit of saving the view with the required scale from ArchiCAD.
