ArchiCAD Dead.

After weeks of flawless operation, ArchiCAD 9. + Plotmaker [mac] will not put up a window for me, or a splash screen, or appear on screen but will appear in application running list and can be quit:

1: Uninstalled/Reinstalled.
2: WIBU Reinstall
3:Though recent video/torrent activity might have damaged Quicktime - reinstalled quicktime.
4: tried both USB keys - all seems okay.

Any ideas? I am distraught.

Help!!!!!

Solved it in one word: Fonts!

Sort of like that Bud Light commercial where the guy hires Vikings to ruin a family gathering so he can stay home and watch the game.

I had been browsing the internet for fancy fonts on another project and while all the OTHER applications appear to incorporate the new fonts, only ArchiCAD is a snob about it.

When I remove all of my added fonts from the fonts folder - ArchiCAD works again.

Dwight,
I am very glad that you solved your problem.
Though I could not think of anything to help,
I was quite concerned.
Thank you for posting back and telling us
how you solved your problem.
I am sure all of us will file away this information
about fonts and hopefully remember when
the same thing happens to one of us.
Thanks,
Peter Devlin

It is well documented in the Apple Discussion forum:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?13@494.Ud25a4f5SQJ.2@.68a9784a/0

I am not sure which fonts were at fault, but in cleaning my font files I "relocated" all the other font types. There's only so often a guy gets to design the international package for haleem masala, if ever.

I'll try this restartwithoptionkey. I think it turns on the espresso making feature.

The same thing can happen with Microsoft Office, too. It slows on too many fonts. And chokes if there are problems. Not just Archicad.

I have a client who's been running ArchiCAD 7 under OS 9 for years. Recently he's updated his system with OS X (on the same partition) and installed ArchiCAD 9.

Now when he reboots into OS 9, ArchiCAD 7 will not launch. He gets the following Error:
CarbonLib--FSmountservervolumesync.

I've done some research and found this: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Reference/File_Manager/file_manager/chapter_1.2_sect...

But it doesn't explain anything about fixing this condition.

Any clues?

Terry, (long time no see 😉

I ran AC7 on OSX for a couple of years before I upgraded to AC9. (The upgrade is worth it, i can assure you!)

I did have some problems, but nothing like that. I'm not sure about the cause (I'd guess protection-key related), but my advice would be the following.

- Backup. Also backup any customisations to Archicad, libraries etc.
- Do not attempt to run AC in OSX on a Mac that doesn't support OSX natively (i.e., has Firewire AND USB built-in). No hacks!
- Make sure he has the latest version of AC7. Make sure he has a valid USB key (Wibu-key), not ADB. Graphisoft will help with that.
- Update the MacOSX system to the latest that his machine is comfortable with. Preferably Panther (OSX 10.3) with the latest Software updates.
- Make sure that the Classic System Folder is on the same volume as the OSX system. Launch Classic once - it will update itself with the latest updates. Then stop Classic again.
- Re-install Archicad in the (Drive name)/Applications folder. Apply all the applicable updates from Graphisoft.
- Download and run the latest Wibukey driver installer for OSX and Classic from
http://wibu.de/us/down_wibukey.php
(currently it's 4.10b)
- Run AC as an OSX application exclusively - don't attempt to run it within the Classic environment anymore.
- If AC won't start after the Classic environment is started, always start Archicad before any Classic program.
- If he likes it better, he can choose to run AC7 in Classic exclusively (a checkmark in the OSX System's Get Info window on AC will do). It will be less stable but just as fast. But he has to make a choice - alternating won't do.
- As soon as possible, upgrade to AC9 (skip 8 )!
