Terry, (long time no see
😉
I ran AC7 on OSX for a couple of years before I upgraded to AC9. (The upgrade is worth it, i can assure you!)
I did have some problems, but nothing like that. I'm not sure about the cause (I'd guess protection-key related), but my advice would be the following.
- Backup. Also backup any customisations to Archicad, libraries etc.
- Do not attempt to run AC in OSX on a Mac that doesn't support OSX natively (i.e., has Firewire AND USB built-in). No hacks!
- Make sure he has the latest version of AC7. Make sure he has a valid USB key (Wibu-key), not ADB. Graphisoft will help with that.
- Update the MacOSX system to the latest that his machine is comfortable with. Preferably Panther (OSX 10.3) with the latest Software updates.
- Make sure that the Classic System Folder is on the same volume as the OSX system. Launch Classic once - it will update itself with the latest updates. Then stop Classic again.
- Re-install Archicad in the (Drive name)/Applications folder. Apply all the applicable updates from Graphisoft.
- Download and run the latest Wibukey driver installer for OSX and Classic from
http://wibu.de/us/down_wibukey.php
(currently it's 4.10b)
- Run AC as an OSX application exclusively - don't attempt to run it within the Classic environment anymore.
- If AC won't start after the Classic environment is started, always start Archicad before any Classic program.
- If he likes it better, he can choose to run AC7 in Classic exclusively (a checkmark in the OSX System's Get Info window on AC will do). It will be less stable but just as fast. But he has to make a choice - alternating won't do.
- As soon as possible, upgrade to AC9 (skip 8 )!
