Archicad 28 Direct3D Runtime Error

ETSaum

Archicad 28 is constantly freezing or crashing, diving a Direct3D / graphics card error.

Archicad 27 and Archicad 26 do not have the same problem.

I've updated graphics drivers, and uninstalled / reinstalled Archicad to no avail.

I get the same error every time; sometimes, it's within seconds of opening the program. Other times, it can take several minutes. But it happens multiple times a day.

'Direct3D Runtime received a Device Removed Message  DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG'

That's typically an issue with either the graphics card itself or the graphics card's connection the rest of the machine. However, this is the *only* program experiencing the problem, which is usually indicative of a glitch in the program or an incompatibility between the program and the graphics drivers.

These are two of the smallest projects I've ever done in Archicad, and the only two on 28 so far. Archicad 28 appears to be sending conflicting instructions to the GPU, which causes it to hang. No other programs are effected when it happens; in some instances, when it happens in one Archicad 28 file, it doesn't even impact the *other* Archicad 28 file I've got open.

Sounds like a technical question for your local support while you wait to see if anyone here has had the same issue.

We have the same issue with ALL our Machines since we switched from ArchiCAD 27 to ArchiCAD 28:

WIN11 Pro (latest)

i9-13900KF 3.00GHz

NVIDIA Geforce RTX4070ti or RTX3060

If you ask me there seems to be an issue with modern graphics cards in ArchiCAD but I don't have a solution yet. Everything else works smooth.

i've had the same issue on both my laptops... however it's been less frequent of late.

Both Win 11 Pro

Both AC28.0.2

One is an i7-10750H & GTX 1650 Ti

the other is Core 7 Ultra 155H & RTX 4060

i'm also suffering from incredibly slow updating in the 3D window, which has only been since upgrading to 28. same files update instantly in 26. Simply unlocking a layer can cause 28 to go through a 30-60 second update of the 3D window.

i have contacted CI, but they assure me there is no known bug and that i should simply set my 3D drawings to manual update.... 🙄

That is one of the steps I've taken for now as well. Seems to *help*, but not entirely address the problem.

Agreed. It's clearly not just 28.0.2, because a co-worker that is still running the initial release of 28.0 is having the same problem.

GS Support told me it has something to do with energy saving mode on laptops. But we use desktops on best performance mode and still have the Problem...

Agreed. My laptop is set to max performance across the board before the problem even started.

Turning off all auto-regen has helped a little.

Hello, same problem on my Dell X17 R2 laptop with NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and 64 GB of memory.

Apparently there is no fully effective solution currently according to your messages. We are starting to be many for a Bug that does not exist

Have a good weekend everyone.

Try setting Archicad to use high performance graphics card only, this will stop Windows trying to switch between the on board graphics and the dedicated graphics card.
