Archicad 28 home screen delay

Takis
Expert

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a long delay in the HOME SCREEN menu when opening Archicad 28 and when deleting recent projects.

The same delay also occurs when I open the HOME SCREEN while working on a project.

Is anyone else facing these issues?

Still not liking that window and I agree it is extremely slow.

IMO after using AC for 20+ years I don't need to see sample projects…

Hi all,

We do know of an issue that is causing performance problems with web-based content across remote desktop connections.
Can you confirm if this is the case here or is the slowness present on your local machine?

Any pattern could help us to address this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Zoltán V.

It is on my local machine.

Unacceptably slow on launch in local machine connected directly to router with average dl speed of 500Mbs.

The pattern is simple:

  1. Close AC
  2. Launch AC and wait for 1-2 min until the screen opens
  3. If AC opens it usually takes between 15-30 seconds.

I really Hate-HATE this screen and I hate it more every time I need to launch 27…

@Eduardo Rolon  the "27" was just a typo hopefully, since there is no home-screen in AC27 🙂

I am really interested in getting to the bottom of this issue, since we do not experience this kind of problems and nor did we receive similar reports through other channels. So any input here is valuable to me: screen recording of the problem, display specifications, storage type info (hdd or ssd), recent list content, anything.

Feel free to reach out to me directly in direct message or email, so we can work on this together.

No typo.

The startup screen in 27 is much better than 28. I can launch 27 and select a previous file in under 8 seconds.

AC 28 takes 45.

So every time I open AC27 I am reminded of the slowness of 28.

IIRC I reported this during the Beta and at a minimum I posted this 4 months ago.

Archicad (28 in particular) certainly likes to be installed on the main SSD drive.

I had it installed on a second HDD as I was low on space, and it was much slower.

Re-installed on SSD and much faster.

But I have noticed it seems slows down over time - I am sure it is not just my imagination.

I think it is an accumulation of preference files and recent files and sometimes auto-save files in our user profiles that are not being cleared automatically.

I don't use 28 as my main Archicad, so have not really investigated anything.

Certainly in 25, 26 & 27, the recent list of files seems to slow the start screen.

I always try to clear the old ones when I know I don't need them any more.

I would happily go back to just having 8 or 12 most recent files as it was pre start screen.

Versions 6.5 to 27
i7-10700 @ 2.9Ghz, 32GB ram, GeForce RTX 2060 (6GB), Windows 10
Lenovo Thinkpad - i7-1270P 2.20 GHz, 32GB RAM, Nvidia T550, Windows 11

Every time I click on the recent list to remove old items it beachballs between 30-45 seconds. So clearing up the oldest 10 items takes between 5 to 10 minutes.

If I switch to another Tab I have to wait to switch back it doesn't come to the front since it is beach balling in the background.
