Can I merge 2 slabs?

Not applicable
If I mirror a slab it shows a line in plan. Is there any way I can eliminate the line or do I really have to create one single slab. e.g., multi family housing where there are 5 identical units connected via open corridor.

No. Consolidate and unify only work on 2D drafting elements.
But you slabs will join automatically (if they're identical otherwise) in all views except the floor plan, where I usually want to hide their layer anyway.

If you chose to do so, you can "Grow" a slab using the pet palette "+" symbol where a selected slab can grow using the magic wand on additional slab areas.

The main reason for "growing" slabs, besides eliminating the join is to align their material surface map direction.

This method requires deleting the individual slabs after the main slab is grown over them.
