Door and Window builder .txt files

I have added door and window builder to my libraries but it seems to be causing some annoyances. It seems to have its own "door.txt and window.xtx" that are giving me a bit of grief. Every time I open a new project which includes this library I need to point to the .txt files that are part of the door and window builder package. However the worst part is that if I import drawings into plotmaker (or update drawings that were imported prior to using the library) I get a dialog box asking for me to open something with no indication of what it wants me to open. I have pointed to these same .txt file and it seems to solve the problem. Has anyone else had these type of problems with door and Window builder? I have emailed theometric twice with no response, but I understand the company is currently changing hands which is likely delaying any advice. These issues makes door and window builder virtually un-usable at this time. Thanks for any advice someone might have.

I have to agree you on this one , very annoying upgrade. while door & window builder has been a great library add-on I wish they didn't add this annoyance

Hi Mike,

I too, find it annoying (since I don't use their scheduling). But if you just name the files upon opening a job, it doesn't ask again.

Thank you Steve and Randy for your replies. I imagine I am doing something incorrectly because every time I import drawings into plotmaker from a drawing that has door and window builder, I receive a dialog box to open something that is not even defined. What I am trying to say is the dialog box clearly wants you to open something but there is no indication of what this item might be. Have you seen this as well? I have deduced that it is looking for door.txt and window.txt since this seems to remedy the situation for that particular import. I can deal with these situations but others in the office would be at a loss. It is hard to imagine that there is not a better solution.

Has there been any resolution to this topic? I have been having the same issues. W/ArchiCAD it's not so bad, I've been able to define/create the (2) text files once when prompted and ArchiCAD finds them now at the projects startup. W/PlotMaker it's a different story - when updating layouts, BGArchiCAD was hanging on me - It took some exploring since it operates in the background, but a window was popping up asking to "Open GDL Text Data File" - twice. I can direct BGAC t the (2) files I've created, but I have to do this EVERY time I update any drawings in the layout. It doesn't remember where to find them. Is anyone else having this problem?

I just create the files that are asked for upon opening a job. One for doors-one for windows in the same folder as the job, and haven't had any problems. Those files contain 0 bytes (I guess because I am not currently using scheduling), but everything goes without a hitch after that.

Hi All,

As of July 1st Cadimage Solutions own Theometric Software. As the new owners I have to apologise for R10 and assure you that had I known about the release I would have held off. Since taking over my team has been working frantically to provide a solution that gives you the benifits of R10 with out the continual text file problems.

We will be uploading R11 in the next 24 hrs.

Shortly I will be sending an email to all Theometric cusotmers to let you know who we are and what our plans for the futrure are. In brief we are the New Zealand ArchiCAD Distributors and have been developing API tools and GDL objects for our customers and large NZ building companies.
We believe the Theometric software in combination with our own will give us the ability to provide extremely productive tools to the worldwide ArchiCAD users.

Sorry for the problems - I hope R11 helps.

Cambell,

it's good to hear you on this forum as we are using ex-Theometric openings, quite extensively at our office and must admit I've got some issues to be addressed.
My first question would be if you are going to do something with the user interface, mate, it is a real pain (don't get me wrong I really appreciate what it could do with openings). Could you tide it up a little bit and make it sort of streamlined?
However, it's good to know that window/door builder is still alive. I have to say that this is only opening library element at the moment that allows us creating real openings in AC.

Campbell,
Door/Window Builder is a great product. I use it almost exclusively on our jobs. Since Rob made a request for future releases, I have also have one. We often use multiple windows with 3"-6" mullions between. If mullions could be added, that would be greatly appreciated! In the meantime, I look forward to R11.

Thanks,

Steve

I see the update posted but my support password no longer works. I can't download R11. Is anyone else having this problem?
