Error Message: CONNECTION FAILED

please help,

We have a powermac G4 running ArchiCad 11 with the latest updates.
We are receiving this error message when ArchiCad opens and everytime ArchiCAD tries to save, either autosave or manual save.

Connection Failed.
The file server is running on your machine.
Please access the volumes & files locally.

The trouble is, if we miss the button that says ok, and click on archicad behind the error window, the error window goes to the back, but archicad is frozen until we can hit the button, then we have to force quit Archicad, and because it has usually happened during an autosave, we loose all of the work back to the last manual save. As it occurs during autosave, it is happening every 2 minutes, and we happen to miss the button about once every day losing approx 1 - 3 hrs work each time.

We have updated Archicad, we have disabled the cross platform mounting features. We are running an all PPC mac OSX 10.4 office, with one intel Imac. The PowerMac that keeps crashing does have all the files on that hard-drive (which get backed up nightly), and other computers connect to and operate those files over the network, occasionally teamworked. But the error message happens on every single file, and even when Archicad starts up before it has opened a file and when ArchiCAD quits.

Any help on how to fix this continuous error message would be greatly appreciated.

Try the 'search' function of this forum to see if you find any solutions:

and enter IN QUOTES 'connection failed' so that you will find the exact phrase of the error message. Lots of posts will show up.

With regard to the error dialog getting hidden behind the AC windows - I take it that it will not respond to Expose? If not, how about minimizing the work windows (plan, section, etc) vs hiding AC (which would hide the dialog)?

Hopefully one of the other posts/threads - or someone who participated in them - can help!

Thank you very much for your response Karl but ....

No, the dialogue box doesn't respond to expose... The error message is a part of Archicad, and when Archicad returns from expose, it returns with whichever window was on top. (with the error message still hidden behind, unavailable)

The window's minimise buttons also don't respond, or resize, or any other button, or menu, etc... Other applications are still available though.

And the search in the ArchiTalk didn't respond, neither did the ArchiWiki search.... which gave the DisableCrossPlatformMountingFeatures Solution as the closest Network Connection error message, but to no avail.... yet.

I thought there might be a network setting causing the error. We've also been planning on getting a second harddrive in this computer to separate the data files from the computer's operating system files... but I can't see how that would help this problem???

Problem is solved!

Roland at Graphisoft Tech Support gave me the solution.

It was some libraries in the files we were working on that were linking to an old IP Address.

Solution:
Unload the libaries, save and shut down.
Open ArchiCAD back up, Open the file, Re-load the libraries.

Problem Solved.
