right-click on a PLN file -> open with... -> select the version of archicad you want to be the default to open -> check the checkbox with always use the selected program... -> click ok

Oh well. I'm probably too picky. I may even go to the extreme of uninstalling 11 getting the pln association set to 12 and then re-installing 11.
