logitech TrackMan Wheel / USB
I will take your Logitech Trackman Wheel and raise it to a Microsoft Trackball Optical! I am on a suped up 27iMac with sports stripes and on up grading to ACv16 the simple Pan function would not work though. Crippled! Until I read another user mention Steermouse software. (
http://www.plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/index.html) There were no happy snaps of Trackballs only mice so I was not feeling confident that it would solve my issue, however did the install and BINGO! This obscure little software add on had solve my issues and it has a large array of functions that can be programmed into your awesome Trackball or dodgy mouse - up to 16 click functions by adding Modifier Keys.
My Trackball has 5 buttons which is why it out-trumps the Logitech even though I have had 2 Logitechs on the past and loved them.
TIP for new player on the settings is…
Extreme left = return or enter or OK
Left = Normal Click
Middle (Clicking the Scroll Wheel) Pan
Right = Right Click
Far Right = Delete
With Extreme left = return or enter or OK, when a Dialogue Box is on the screen, after you have selected parameters etc, just click the Far Left Button and the OK is clicked - you do not need to s-c-r-o-l-l all the way to the OK button every time there is a Dialogue Box a 1000 times a day. Immensely time saving. This works with ANY program, not just ArchiCAD. Even when word processing and doing a bit of editing, when the cursor is placed and the Far Right button is clicked, it is the same as hitting Return on the keyboard and entering another line - I have used this for years and it is such a handy weapon!
With Extreme Right, being Delete, when in AC simply select an item be it a wall, object, text, anything, and just Right Click - Bingo - Deleted! I use this for all my Deleting. Is also used for backspacing in AC or word processing. Beautiful!
My hand NEVER leaves the Trackball to hit Return OR Delete on the keyboard - EVER! Do this several hundreds of times per week, per month, per year and the pay off is huge.
The Microsoft Trackball Optical 1.0 is the only Trackball I can find that has 5 buttons. If there are others then would love to hear about them. We should ask Logitech to create a 5 button Trackball or have Microsoft release another new model. They need to know that we use these things with a passion.
For the record, I also have the additional Mac Trackpad to the right of my Trackball to extreme sports in ArchiCAD and other Software - and I don't even play games!!!
Hope that helps, Brilly
