!Restored: AC 7.0 and Vista

I have not seen any posts on this topic, but I am sure someone else has crossed this issue. I am using 7.0: yes, I am a dinosaur, but it fits my needs very well. My former Windows XP machine was running AC fine until the motherboard burned up. I bought a new computer with Windows Vista (mistake #1). The AC program opens, but only certain pln files will open. In fact, many pln files either do not show up or cause AC to crash. The bpn files will open though. Regardless of pln or bpn, or new files I am creating, all text is messed up. It looks fine while I am typing in an open text box or callout, but when I exit the text box, the text assumes its own order making it incomprehensible.

I do not want to upgrade AC and also do not want yet another computer. Are there any quick and easy fixes? As you can guess by the AC version, I have years worth of architectural plans I need access to.

I'm afraid you might be out of luck. Even AC10 and Vista do not like each other. Short of installing XP on your new computer I don't know what other solution there may be.

Check this Wiki article http://www.archicadwiki.com/Windows_Vista and see if you can get anything from it.

There is virtualization software (like that enabling Macs to run Windows) that will allow you to run different versions of Windows simultaneously. Microsoft bought one such solution from Connectix called "Virtual PC" - take a look at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx

You could then install and run XP (when you need to) without harming your Vista installation.

News from GSNA.....

Install AC 7.0 on Windows XP, and then copy the application folder to the Vista workstation via the network, or flash / external drive etc

I have tried the potential solutions listed: no luck. I'm trying to force it to work again. I have found that AC7.0 works fine on Windows Vista until you try adding stairs. Is it possible the .esm files confuse the application? Is there anyway to open a .pln file that already has a .esm file associated with it?

Incidentally, even though the text and dimensions are screwed up on screen, it seems to plot correctly.
