professional quadro cards vs. regular gaming cards

does archicad support professional graphic cards (like fireGL or quadro)?
if yes, does it have any advantage over regular gaming card with the same chip?

Have you all looked at the tests with different polygon count - very interesting. New test page for Archicad 19 - http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/technotes/video-cards/recommended-video-cards-for-archicad-19/

Gamer cards are scoring too low?
They've only used old gamer cards with low memory.

I'd love it if they released the benchmark tool they use. Maybe we can test our own cards and come up with a very helpful database.
Imagine if we looked on here and got a good accurate idea of the right card for our particular use!

There is such a thing for version 18 - http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/technotes/video-cards/recommended-video-cards-for-archicad-18/

In the end of the page there is a link from which you can download the test files and test for yourself.
If someone has some of the latest game cards, please test it!

It's just a test to see if your card actually works, doesn't give a number, but yes, I can confirm my gigabyte R9 280x works around 20% faster than my Firepro W5100.

This is only part of the equation, just out of interest.
For some reason I don't fathom, GPU performance relies on CPU speed also, so even if you have a great graphics card, if your CPU is no good graphics will still not work well.
I just upgraded from the nvidia gtx 770m, which did very well over all if i kept shadows always off. I just got a new machine with the 970m and the performance is unreal. I work mostly with residential projects but even when i load a massive home on a hill with thousands of trees, the load time and navigation are so fast and smooth even with shadows on. The 900 series nvidia cards are crazy awesome in comparison with the cards they used in the testing. (gaming cards)

edit: i say all this and then find out that the gpu isnt doing anything for that?? other than bimx. ha ha so i guess the new intel broadwell chip is whats making the difference for me?? cause 19 was smooth with my i7 4900 and gtx 770m, but with the 5700 and the 970 ive never had such a great user experience with archicad!

GPU does ALL of the screen stuff.
So the unreal speed in navigating your model is because of your new video card

The new CPU will speed up your renders.

To finish it off, a new SSD card will speed up your load and save times haha.

Ha that's what I thought until I was reading another thread and now just noticed that it was solely about rendering... Dur.. I actually have a really fast ssd already.

Please test your GPUs with that file - http://www.graphisoft.com/ftp/techsupport/downloads/ac18/ArchiCAD18_Speedtest-v2014.pla

So we can make a true comparison between gaming and pro cards

Take a look at this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdfmMwvN1vA

It would be very nice to see similar things for Windows 10 and Archicad 19.
This video shows, how misleading some information is. Especially about performance and VRAM usage.

That information is there, just really well hidden. The Acad figures and some research tells you that the model on this video can fit into 2Gb GPU memory, so any more than that is pointless.
Stick a few more trees in and then the difference becomes apparent, once the 2Gb card starts sending info to normal memory it'll choke.
