AC9 SE Windows & Doors - Wall types

Anonymous
Not applicable
Since there are no stupid questions.

When am I to Choose one wall type over another?

Window Types:

* Solid Wall w/ Siding (is this a Composite wall?)
* Brick Veneer Wall (Kind of Obvious, but maybe not?)
* Solid Wall (Non-composite wall, even one with non-solid {Empty} fill?)
* Stud Wall (also a Composite wall?)

The manual is not very specific.

Pick the wall type that is closest to your construction. This will create a more realistic detail taken from the model.

The new doors and windows will change appropriately for the type of wall they are in. While the attached screen shot shows only windows, the door to wall condition will similarly change to reflect more accurately the correct meeting of the door/window to the wall type.

You can see the difference also in 3D.

Thanks for the message Erika.

Sorry to say I am still a bit confused about whether the wall Type was anything to do with whether I am using a "basic" wall or a Composite wall.

I have never been that happy with the Functionality of Composite Walls, but Would prefer actually to use them. Mostly I am "modeling" a 2x6 wall as a 5 1/2" wall and just using the material specifications inside and out to display the wall "Properly" in 3D.

We vary rarely use Brick up here in the Mountains and most (85& or so) of our siding applications actually run underneath the trim. In otherwords the window trim is nailed on over the Siding. Only for a steeply Beveled siding is the siding cut to butt with the window trim like the "Stud wall with Siding" wall type displays.

It doesn't make any difference whether your wall is made of a basic(single wall fill) or a composite wall type.

The selection of which type of wall in the window/door settings box determines what types of trims etc. will be available. You can use a basic/single-fill wall type for both stud wall and stud wall with siding . This is telling the window/door that it is in an interior or exterior wall and shows sills, casings etc. accordingly.

So a Solid Wall Type "shows" the sills and casings differently than a stud wall and stud wall with siding wall. Your previous image files seemed to "show" thes items for the Solid wall.

Jay,
Here is a section through the same walls. You can see how the wallholes are cut differently for the different wall types. This provides us with a more accurate and detailed starting point when we use these sections to make our sill, head and jambe details.

Progress!
Exciting!

Looks like I will just have to set up Three different windows with the three different wall types that I may use (like I said before we very rarely use Brick), and see which section looks the best.

Yes it is nice to se progress, but I can not seem to set the parameters on the SE library and achieve a window that does not produce Warnings and errors.

As Karl said, keep posting the problems you come across them so the programmers will know what to correct.

Jay,

A plug for Cadimage's Accessories. After some feedback from a local they have added an exterior apron even. It's a bit limited in some of it's selections yet but placing your trim over the siding or butting the siding to the trim is simply done.

Of course it is still teething, but if enough AC'rs buy it hopefully the development will follow.

To clarify: you must report bugs to your local/regional tech support so that the issue is entered into the bug database (the master "to do" list). (For the SE library, that would be GSUS support, since this is a US library.)

Do post the issues here for the benefit of other users though! Whether on this topic or any other - everyone must remember that this is not a bug-reporting forum that we can expect that the programmers will read. Tech support handles bug reporting, verifying bugs before sending them to GSHQ.

Cheers,
Karl
