Autotext code for Back Reference?

Paul King
Mentor
I am trying to create a drawing label, but cannot seem to place an auto text string corresponding to back reference information. I note when placing auto text there is a greyed out 'reference' category. How do I un-grey this so I can see what autotext references are possible?

Attempting to reverse engineer the standard built-in Graphisoft title handling method of back referencing is causing me considerable discomfort.

What do people normally do? when scripting for back referencing?

Paul, did you ever get an answer to this? I know the post is a million years old (or almost 1).

I'm looking into a similar issue.

As far as I know auto text isn't able to do the back referencing. You would need to do a little GDL work, but it is relatively simple. If you are looking to get into scripting this would be a good place to start. After all, esentially it is just 3-4 bits of text a circle and a line (depending on your office standards) And scripting really isn't as scary as it seems.

I started by taking one of the standard Archicad titles which has the back referencing function working and stripped out everything that didn't apply to it, leaving just the code and parameters for the back referencing. Then it was just a matter of building it back up to appear the way we wanted it. Hope this helps.

That does help. I need to find time to give it a try. In the meantime I found another solution: just change how I do numbering and one of the default drawing titles will work.

This blog post might help a little:

It looks like the problem you're running into is that you're trying to backlink back to a linked marker and not a source marker. Backlinks unfortunately only direct back to source markers.

I dont understand after reading the help:

http://help.graphisoft.com/ac16_help_INT/Files/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=Appendix_Tools...

After reading it convinces me more that I should be able to back reference the detail, but I cant because as with the image above
When I right click on a detail drawing in a layout and under the title tab section, click the back reference button, It says "Note; The Back reference function is only available if this drawings source has a source marker"

But as far as im aware it does have a source marker because when i go to the reference marker on my cross section and right click on the reference marker and tell it to "Open Detail Drawing" it takes me back to that detail drawing (so that is linked correctly)

Also when I select the reference marker as a source marker
'with Marker Reference to" and browse to define the marker reference
to the particular detail on the particular page.

Then I go back to the detail placed on the layout page
"Back Reference" button
Enable back reference tickbox is available
and then Select All Availbe tickbox becomes available
there is still nothing below to select from?

obviously i have done something wrong?
I can link details to their source layouts
but not back reference them to the reference markers layouts?

Also With the reference marker set as a source marker
I have also gone through and picked all 4 of the 'with Marker Reference to'
options: Viewpoint, The Selected Drawing, The first placed drawing of the viewpoint & The first placed drawing of the selcted view
Picked independantly then gone back to the detail on the page layout to try and back reference, but there are no options to pick from once Enable Back Reference has been selected
Ive figured out that it is to do with the marker I am using
the one which displays how I want it to does not allow back referencing
however the others allow it without the appearance I am after
maybe i need to make a custom detail

How are you creating the details? Are you creating an independent detail and then linking a marker to it, or are you using the detail tool to create a new detail window based on the part of the model (or other drawing) that you are looking at? The latter is the source marker. If you do the former, then there is no source marker to link to, just linked markers. In your example, if you look at the 3rd line under general settings you can see it says linked marker.

Ok I have found a detail title that allows to show referencing
and I have my Independant Details , but I can set them to Source markers instead of linked markers.
It kind of sucks that i cant just tell the marker where I want to set the source
well i kind of can but archicad doesnt understand it

Our drawing template already has independant details set up
I guess i will have to change how I create detail drawings on the next job
because its getting to late to be messing around creating new detail layouts again and having to re reference them.
Because this job needs to go out shortly.

I might play around with what you are talking about with one detail to get the hang of it.
Although im not sure what settings i should have on the marker to get it working how i would like???
Do i create a new detail viewpoint, or create a linked marker?
And where should the marker reference to?
also is there a way i can do this in no particular order?
without the detail numbering consecutively?

Ok i have tried this without success!?>

Used the detail tool marker to create a new detail viewpoint on my cross section

this generates a bunch of lines automatically in the detail view
I then place this new drawing on a page layout
add a title that allows back referencing and try to back reference it

still doesnt let me do it! nothing to select from?
