Copying objects from file to file changes linetype

Hi! When copying objects from one file to another the linetype in the symbol is changing. I tried deleting the object from the library and importing the linetype then copying and I have the same result. I also tried by adding them to the library and then inserting them and the same thing happens. This only happens with a particular linetype in the symbol, not all of them. How can I solve this without having to edit every single object’s 2D symbol? Thanks

ARCHICAD attributes have an internal ID number. This is what determines which linetype is shown.

In your example you have created or changed a linetype with let's say #6 (as an example) in one file, however in the other file the linetype with #6 is a different linetype.

You could replace the linetype with the correct linetype using attribute manager, however if this is one of the 'standard' linetypes that are also used by other library parts, I would not recommend that.

When you say "importing the linetype" was that by Index or Append? For your symbol linetype to change, you would need to transfer by Index, but that may mess up other entities within your project that used that linetype.

Since it sounds like it may not have been done, if you know a little bit of GDL you could make the line type a user customisable parameter. In that way if the IDs for your linetypes varies between files, you can change it to the correct linetype without affecting anything else.

Options => Element Attributes => Attribute Manager

Open the modified file on the right and transfer the attributes by index to your current file.

Layers in AC do not control linetype and weight. These are controlled within each entity. So if you want to copy these changes across, once your matched your files attributes, you could copy the relevant object types across, then use the eyedropper to extract and inject the relevant settings. The settings that are transferred can be set under the element transfer settings.

Edit => Element Settings => Element Transfer Settings
