Check that they are "Lines" and not "Polylines".
Polylines (and splines) don't work to create fills.
If that is the problem... use the line tool and the magic wand,
to quickly copy the pattern.

Since this is in the GDL-section, do you mean to do this by creating an object with this fill in it's definition?? Seems like a large (and unnecessary) workaround, as this is more a symbol fill than a vectorial fill (which does need this workaround if you want to make anything besides 'resized' standard AC-fills...)
