Edit 2D symbol of stairmaker stair?

Is there a way to open the library part for a stairmaker stair, for the purpose of changing its 2D symbol? The standard "open object" just puts me back into stairmaker. I also tried open object without the stair selected, and navigating to the stair library part, but that put me into stairmaker as well.

Is there any other way to make the rails show up (with overhangs) in the floor plan for a stairmaker stair?

You could select the stair, and "Save Selection as Object"

That will be saved as a regular object, and be opened as such.

... and not editable as a stair any more ...
