GDL Scripting Book for Beginners - looking for a good one

I'm in need of a good (and beginners) book on GDL scripting and the "how to's" of it.

I've heard of a "GDL cookbook" but what versions does it cover?
I was exposed to a brief snapshot of what GDL editing can do and well....I was intoxicated by it's power.

Please...can anyone point me in the right direction on a good "BEGINNERS" book on GDL scripting?

thanks.

The basics of GDL are largely unchanged since version 4 (though of course many useful new features have been introduced since then) so being up to date with the latest release isn't such a big deal.

Of course the GDL Handbook by Andrew Watson is pretty up to date (released in 2009) and is well written and presented.

David Nicholson-Cole's GDL Cookbook is the old standard and has lots of great stuff in it but I think it's been out of print for a while. You might still be able to find a copy though. You can also try the (experimental) online version here.

The cookbook will be the best place to start and is available at http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~lazwww/cookbook/gdl_cookbook/index.html

Also there is a recent book from CADImage by Andrew Watkins, more details of it here
