Libpacks in BIMcloud take long time to load

Since the change to library packs, the loading times of BIMcloud libraries has increased more than 10 fold. See video below comparing the same template loading libraries from BIMcloud both in Archicad 27 and 28. While Archicad 27 loaded the same libraries in around 20 seconds, in Archicad 28, using libpacks, the total library loading time of approximately 2 minutes and 33 seconds just to open a single project template.

This loading time also happens when refreshing the libraries. This is a very long wait time for a user to begin working or update libraries.
Please provide feedback, as this is a serious problem that I suppose most Archicad 28 users have been facing in silence.

Jumping in here. I too am building and refining my AC29 template. Our office uses BIMcloud SaaS as the library source for all projects, even solo PLNs. We did not move to the global libraries for AC28 so this is our big transition point. Favorite conversion went quite well using the add-on. We are not migrating any running projects to the new library architecture. Even if move them to AC29 we will keep using the monolith libraries for the duration of the project.

Two things I am experiencing while working on the template:

  1. I get an Updating local library data… progress pop-up when I open a project even if the libraries are already downloaded and are unchanged. Not a huge deal, but why?
  2. Updating the Libpacks on BIMcloud is a royal pain. We have about 50 libpacks that load with most projects and updating them one by one is very tedious. Please tell me there is a way to update all the libpacks on BIMcloud in one go that I am not aware of.

Thanks.

Are there any updates on this. It is taking me 10-15 to open a file on the server everytime I open a file. This is extremely frustrating.

I suppose you are also on MacOS using libpacks loaded from BIMcloud? I agree that this issue is really annoying and it is very unpleasant not having responses from the development team.

Yes, I am using libpacks, but am on a PC. I also have a large custom library for finishes that I use for rendering in Enscape. I suspect that library is what takes so long. However, I had this same library prior to switching to libpacks and did not have this issue.

AC 29 is slow in general. I have files that took 10-15 min to open from scratch (no existing local data) in AC28 to now taking over an hour WITH local data already

Is Graphisoft ever going to fix this joke of an update? Teamwork’s become borderline unusable using libpacks on both PC and MAC.

I’m having to purge my template and return to LCFs because these files just take too long to open anymore.

Did anyone at GS even bother to beta test their own product? It’s been over a year since this issue first came up and there’s been zero improvement.

While we wait for the development team to address why a process that used to take 30 seconds now takes several minutes, here is a "manual patch" for your sanity:

The Workaround:
Spam-click the Stop button (approx. 40 times) during the "Updating local library data" phase.

This bypasses the loop and returns the loading time to pre-AC28 speeds. It works for opening projects, updating libraries, and even IFC links. If Graphisoft won’t give us back those lost minutes of our lives, I guess we’ll just have to click our way out of it.

Thanks for the finger workout, Graphisoft!

We're experiencing the same or a very similar problem: excessive loading times. Opening a file every day takes a considerable amount of time, even without any library changes. In some cases, we've had wait times exceeding 15 minutes.

We've optimized ports and IT configurations, and it improved somewhat, but every time we open a file, it says "updating local library." Now, file opening times are between 15 and 20 minutes. It used to be worse.

We migrated to Archicad Collaborate due to pressure from Graphisoft; we have six licenses. It's unacceptable that it reduces our productivity every time we open a file. It's disappointing to pay for a service that isn't fast. Before, on our Bimcloud Basic network, everything was fast, even when working from home. What's the real advantage?

Return the MEP functionality to Archicad Studio and let us be happy with Bimcloud Basic, which is much faster and more productive.

Paying for a service like this makes no sense.

We use Archicad 29 Windows on most of our computers, all with the same problem; similar on iOS.
