License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Library (3ds and rpc)

Hello,

Apologies if it turns out to be a FAQ.

Is it possible to use .3ds and .rpc object files within AC10?
If yes, how?
If not, why not?

Bob

P.S. Revit can use .rpc object files.

>I can't understand where lies your problem.

1. the size of the resulting library
2. the conversion, one by one, of hundreds of objects

Anyway, I do like your examples... As I am learning AC10, I did not manage to have the converted 3ds listed in the library. How did you do it?

Bob

P.S. I spotted this example of ArchiCAD + LightWave:

http://homepage.mac.com/pixym

The renderings are not photorealistic; they look like cartoons.
By comparison, Cinema4D looks much better...

Ok, that's it! Cinema4D is going to be one.

Bob
So, when You are at last in proper place to talk about Archicad objects, You are starting thread about renderings

On C4D forum You talk about Archicad objects I presume?

No Rafal, mine is a general thread on object files and the reason why ArchiCAD is not compatible with industry standards and has a rather bad rendered built-in. Just read the full thread before making conclusions.

This thread was in the "new user" section on purpose. I am exploring ArchiCAD and its extensions. If you are the jerk who moved the thread into this other forum, thank yourself for the mistake.

This is a non-exhaustive list of object file formats and their NATIVE compatibility with ArchiCAD 10, that is objects can be used inside AC10 drawings directly. I will update the list with new entries, corrections and comments.

How popular is .GDL? There are only a dozen objects around, mostly in this website:

By comparison, the market is flooded with 3ds max c4d rpc... Perhaps Graphisoft should improve AC to such an extent that such files can be used natively.

Bob,

This is the first warning.

Your high flying style is probably OK in your community where you might be a wizard. Here you still have to EARN RESPECT. That is done by helping people, and not showing off, which is the only expertise that you have shown so far.

Language like the one that you are using above to a person that has helped more people on this forum that you have met in your life is not allowed.

Tone down and use your knowledge productively.

Djordje, no need for further warnings to me. I am not having myself the kind of messages that you are wishing for, so it is a give and take here... The difference is that I get frustrated by flamers, you get frustrated by me replying to them. It's ok if you go after them too, for fairness sake!

Apropos of "showing off", how could you ever make that up from my posts to the "new user" forum? Are you biased? Oh, never mind!

I am not biased, I am a moderator. My responsibility to this forum is that all people, whoever they are, behave within the borders of common sense and civilised discusssions.

Your frustration is obvious - and you can NOT call the people who don't see the validity of your points and/or views flamers.

Why?

Because they have spend more nights working in Archicad, and getting frustrated, but still sticking around and learning how to tame the beast.

Your attitude to me looks like this:

You are landing in Dubai tomorrow. At this time of the year, the average daily temperature is about 40 Celsius (roughly 100 Fahrenheit), and the relative humidity is 65% and above. Right now it is almost 9 PM, my garden door has a mini Niagara running down it - the humidity is at 97%.

Now, you have just landed, and you are walking the street, sweating like everybody else, and telling everybody that it is very hot and humid, very hot and humid, very hot and humid ... GET THE *BEEP!* INSIDE! THE A/C IS ON!

You are so busy stating the obvious that you did not see the entrance to the mall, where you might freeze to death, but you will not be hot or sweaty.

Therefore, you should not tell the Talkers that the sky is blue, we all know that. Also, if you have finished banging into every glazing pane on the ground floor, maybe it would be prudent to ask someone where the door is, or would you prefer to sweat it out a bit more?

A bit of respect and a sliver of humility gets one a long way. That is my experience. Yours mileage may vary.

Djordje, I am loosing you, but not entirely. I understand from what you are saying that, paraphrasing, in the land of frustrated people, everyone keeps quiet, either in the attempt to forget about their problems or to avoid stating the obvious about them. In this land of plenty, a foreigner walks in to have a chat about pros and cons of living in it. All is well, until he asks questions about those very problems that no one wants to talk about. When he gets frustrated, the police (you) comes out with the whistle, to say: "Welcome to Frustra-Land!". Now, in this fairy tale, there is only one thing that really bothers me. Where is Graphisoft? I spent hours in a few threads sharing feedback about AC10 from the standpoint of a new user, with an obvious emphasis to certain problems. At the end of the day, I could not care less about getting even with any average frustrated chap along the way, because it is easy to get funny reactions in one such land. What I do care about, is Graphisoft's own reaction. After all, they are selling a product, and I am a potential customer. My dialogue is not with its users. My dialogue is with the company. When I stated that I do not like "fork lifts" I was showing my frustration for lack of feedback. Is this company a dead peace of meat, that I have been trying to lift with a fork? Or is it alive and reactive? As I had no feedback, should I invest in its product? Of all the problems that I have mentioned, did the company took any notice? Is it going to do something about it? Or is it going to ignore them? All I want to know, at this point, is whether the company is committed to move forward, so that I can make a long term investment and have a dialogue on problems while they are solved. If the company is sleeping, and all I get is the blood of its existing customers spelt on my face, then no, sorry, I will not make this investment. Are we speaking the same language now? You may call this "high-flying", I call it business sense.
