Who ate the Archicad Model Library

PH Architecture

The library that came with 28 is missing all of the standard US components. It appears to be just furniture.  Supposedly there is a method to return to the US library but there is no information as to how to load this library.  Is anyone else having this issue or is no one using 28?

Bruno,

I think this might work for our office.   How long has Graphisoft had this database?  I did not know it existed, and I've been using Archicad since version 6.5.
Anyway, time will tell if works for all of our situations, but I am glad you pointed it out since I just discovered the 3D object "W Beam" (with Imperial Units) was missing from the AC28 libpacks.

Hi joelsdg,

As long as I remember, when the complex profile were introduced the database was there.

The other benefit of using the beam and column tools with those profile is that you can take advantage of the automatic intersections between elements and follow the evolution of those tools to easily create more complex elements from standard profiles assembly.

Somehow when those came out, I missed that part of the manual.  Glad to hear about it.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Well said and I would think people would be replaced at the company if they don't know this.

Customer success should be a banner for GS.

And unless I'm missing something else, these complex profiles act too much like beams.  I can't get what I could with the old W Beam Object without more work.  And the Object Settings allowed me to edit the beam ends independently.  See screenshots.

Well still don't see an answer.  HOW DO YOU INSTALL THESE?  Do I have to reinstall these after all updates.

What other are there - cannot all of these be in one location.  This will help as it is impossible to know what there is as Grasphisoft hides these.

.

My Suggestion for Archicad

Have all these listed within ArchiCAD in a utility that walks you thru what you what do and what you don't

These downloads and everything we see on the site should follow this - including anything to be downloaded or install.

Eric,

The complex profiles are under the Options pulldown.  See my screenshot attached.  You have to "load" each size beam you need for the project, but at least they're in Imperial sizes, not metric. But these act like beams.  And it turns out I don't like them as much as the old W Beam Object.

The old W Beam object can only be loaded if you load the Archicad 28 Library.  It's NOT in the "libpacks".  So load the Archicad 28 library and with the Object Selection Settings dialog window opens, search for "W Beam" and the object "W Beams 27" should be in the results.  This is the object I have used in the past.

So if you're like me, and trying to stay up to speed on what appears to be Graphisoft's new library organizational method using the "libpacks" we don't get the W Beam object.  We're hosed.

Exactly! This is part of my problem with using the column/beam tools to make actual columns and beams.

1. We need to be able to control the end conditions (as you've shown), and

2. I rarely want structural elements to magically heal to each other.

The beam tool is great for beam-like profiled elements (like metal trim, copings, and fascias; precast wall caps; etc.) where I want clean corners and intersections, but objects make more sense for actual beams.

I guess pulling in AC27 objects from the monolithic library is an option, but maybe that means we're not quite ready to say the new global library is "aimed at simplifying library management" or that  "this shift represents a major step forward, offering expanded content...".  Additionally, GS has specifically indicated that "Mixing objects from the Monolithic and Global Libraries within the same project is not recommended."

You're preaching to the choir, c-luna.  The "New and Improved" is not.  At least for me and our office.  My hope, possibly naively, is that for those of us who try these new "features" first, we find the "bugs" and Graphisoft fixes them.

I know there was, or is, a Testing Group.  I was invited. But I'm hesitant to use Beta versions of Archicad when I have deadlines to meet.  I'll just point out the things that work for us, or not, as time allows.  But I wait until the official release of the software.

i WONDER IF HTREY HAVE ARCHITECTS ON STAFF ANY.  ARCHICAD NEEDS IN INPROVE AND BE BETTER THAN REVIT BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THEY WANTO TO BE THE 2ND OR 3RD IN LINE.  AECOsIm - my old Software went subscription only and that is why I switched with my 3 perpetual license there.  And they did a horrible job selling their comparable to BIM. They were 12 years ahead of Revit. and 15 for GS.  Revit is the way to go though as all my larger clients now demand.

And I cannot find any Bentley or Acad Engineers that I can visit weekly or even monthly.  Waiting on my next big project and it will be hard when Graphisoft is more expensive  than the others.

Graphisoft needs new leadership.
