hi im using archicad 9 (and archicad in general for 3 years and im starting to become curious about the add on thing.
unfortunately i found out that there are many of them and i cannot find out which is what and the most important where can i find them

is graphisoft sellling them as additional programs or there are other companies?

i just found out that someone is using the 'door window builder' (thats what he said) is this an add on to make your own doors? or he meant the normal window and door tool in archicad?

last question:
is there an add on that can help me make my own objects?

thanks a lot for your help and patience

Add-ons are a mixed bag. Some are very well executed (such as those from CAD Image and Cigraph) others may be of more or less quality/utility. There are several that come with ArchiCAD (besides those that are loaded automatically). Look in the goodies folder inside the ArchiCAD folder.

First go to "Tools"->"Add-on Manager" to choose which add-ons you want to load with AC
Then restart and go to "Extras" menu,If everything is ok you will see the names af the add-on

Both.

It is a library in fact, produced by CADImage, the New Zealand distributor. Check their Web site.

Many ... starting with ArchiCAD itself, 3DS import, DXF import, DWG import, SketchUp import, onwards to (free) GDL ToolBox, ArchiForma, MaxonForm, and the best - GDL CookBook and your own knowledge of GDL.

In the ArchiCAD documentation (Graphisoft Documentation folder I presume), you can find PDFs on this subject. Ask your reseller for PDF or a printed version of Object Making With ArchiCAD book by David Nicholson Cole, that used to be a part of ArchiCAD package - as usual, its presence was not documented or touted, therefore almost nobody noticed.

Check the Resources forum - there are a few posts with extensive list of ArchiCAD related links. Many of them contain a wealth of free objects that someone else already did.

Wendy,
Door/Window Builder is a must for me. It offers an almost endless variety of door and window types. At first it seems a bit tedious, but you get used to it. And once you come up with a door you like, you can always save it to favorites. I like it.

I think the biggest and most important question is really "What do I need to do that an Add-on would make more cost effective?"

Some add-ons add new editing or modeling functions to Archicad, such as Ralph Wessel's Objective. Others are simply objects that add a certain intelligence or automation that you did not have before, like anything from ObjectsOnline.com. Yet another class combines the two, giving you the ability to create or edit new 3D objects in ways you never could before, such as the CADImage Accessory Tools.

There are dozens of add-ons that range from $20 to $900 each. You can easily browse the different web sites, but make sure what you are buying actually meets your needs. All of the add-ons are useful to someone, but maybe not you specifically.
