AC11 1040 tooooo slooooooow

Eduardo Rolon
Moderator
Working with the same file in AC10 and AC11

AC 10

open = 1 min
open organizer = less than 1 min
update all drawings = 1.5 hrs

AC 11

open = 9 min
open organizer = 11 min (perfect for a smoking break)
update all drawings = 3 hrs (perfect for an executive three martini lunch)

The first release of AC11 was this slow, with the first patch (1033) it became usable now with the third patch (1040) it is too slow, I am beyond sarcastic.

…and this is a possible 5 year project so I want to keep it in the current version so that when AC16 is out I don't have problems.

I'm sure this is a real concern in some markets, Ben.

At least in the North American market, users typically bypass their reseller and either fill out the web form or call the toll-free number to contact GSUS/NA tech support directly. These guys are GS employees and help the user around the problem, or verify that it is a bug. (We are one of several countries where the distributor is a GS subsidiary, rather than an independent vendor.)

If the bug is new, they enter it directly into the master bug database system for scheduling.

Going through country-specific tech support channels is the best way to make sure that the issue is placed into the database for management review and scheduling.

Nonetheless, ac-talk is a great venue to chat with other users to verify if something really is a problem or if someone knows a workaround. I don't want to talk anyone out of bringing up bugs and other issues in these forums. I only want to talk them into using their tech support channel as well. 😉

Cheers,
Karl

We blindly installed the 1040 patch onto about 18 MACs 1.5 weeks ago and we are having all kinds of havic updating hotlinks. what ususally takes 30 minutes to update is taking several hours if not all day.

I am desparately trying to find how to get around this issue. My delivery schedule is now affected.

I am the CAD Manager and PA for a large project in Indianapolis that will take us till 2010 to finish and started 2 years ago. So our files are large (broken down to smaller bits).

If any of you have heard back from Graphisoft regarding this issue, can you let me know? I have one call into Tech support.

Interesting.

We have installed 1040 and are finding hotlinks extremely slow too!
It is worth noting ours are within the same file, and it is not a large project...at all.

AC11 has been a unusable for me with projects migrated from 10. Noticeably slow was only the tip of the iceberg. 11 freezes. US tech support was able to reproduce some situations and have had similar complaints on other problems from other users. One of the more delightful is it interfering with APC backup UPS. When AC11 froze, it would interrupt the connection to the APC (message to that effect) and if I had the sound on, they would emit a screeching sound until 11 was closed by force-quitting This too others have experienced. More worrisome is that the more I worked in an AC11 file the more often it froze. Interestingly, if either or both AC10 or 9 were open when 11 froze, once 11 was closed they continued to work fine. When 11 froze there was not even enough memory available for a screen shot although task manager showed usage typically 15-30%.

Needless to say I migrated these projects back to 10.

I understand Hungary is working on this, but it is now 3 months after the release and so many of us are still having major problems. The next release is do out in just 9 months to meet the new yearly schedule.

Looking for a smile.

Now I'm quite amused. I've been using AC 8.1 for 3yrs and have not upgraded yet for the following reasons
-too expensive this side of town
-needed to really learn the software before spending that much on an upgrade
but just as I am about ready to join the AC11 bandwagon most comments I've seen are not favorable. I guess I have to wait a while till most of this issues are sorted out. I hope before the next 9 months. I really had high hopes for AC11

Not a bad way to go Aime.
I have always been an early adopter, upgrading early and often. I started with ArchiCAD 6.0 and looking back, the only upgrades I regret are 8.0 and 11.

I will never know the true answer, but interesting to think about whether the productivity gains from new features are more than offset by losses due to upgrading. The time spent wrestling with bugs, migration of old/existing projects, learning new features, installation issues, etc. seems really huge. This is not to mention the cost of purchasing the upgrades and required new hardware.

Scary to think I may have been better off sticking with my old Win2K machine and AC8.1 YIKES!!

Me too. And having big big problems with migrated projects from previous versions to V11 operating on Vista.....also no fonts showing up on PDF when publishing.

It was this kind of thing (poor integration of upgrades on the yearly schedule) that prompted me to make the switch from Autocad to Archicad. This WILL make us switch to another program. I don't need to lose time and money over and over again because of GS problems. Seems to me all these should be worked out before release, or quickly resolved after the fact. Neither is happening.

I'd definitely like to know what this problem-free program you're switching to is, because I've been looking very hard for it.
