AC11 is full with bugs - going back to 10!

I write this post to express my deepest disappointment with AC11.

It is the buggiest version I have ever worked with! It has even more bugs than AC8!

Today I finally decided to go back to AC10!

Even the curved Custom profiles and Trace&Reference are not enough to make up for the poor release! I would gladly trade them for stability!

It is offending to the users to release such a raw and unstable product to the market. I suppose this is due to the 1-year-development-period for new versions. If so, this is a bad direction for Graphisoft.

I said 8 because the AC 11 is ~ $4000 US per seat. Annual upgrades $500, so 8 x $500 = $4000 = new seat of new hot software.

But since everyone is doing this sort of bleeding, it gets multiplied. Is Adobe's photoshop #n significantly better than photoshop 7(the last time i bothered to notice which release i was using).

Rather than buying into the excessive consumption, and rush to produce, I'd rather spend more up front for a better longer lasting product.

Maybe 5 years would be more reasonable....

Finally migrated one of my current projects to AC10! What a pleasure to work without bugs and screen-flickering!
That could be caused by graphic card. Some changes in the OpenGl driver. What about RAM? Maybe there is a problem. I have not experienced to many problems so far. And screen flickering? That's really odd.

It took me half a day for a small project to reassign all the library parts from AC11 to A10, because there is not backward compatability, as Stefan mentioned before. When Doors and Windows change they do not remember their pens, door panels and even he position of the Dimension makers! Everything has to be started from scratch!
I would rather prefer better compatibility forward (properly opened old projects in newer version).

Which means it is not possible to send your project to a colleague who is working on AC10! You have to make it dwg so he could see it right!
If this is just for overview, tell him to install AC11 as a demo. You can use it without the key. If this is for production - never try to work on two different version of the software on the same project. Really.

I don't understand the reasoning here. No one is forcing you to upgrade as soon as the new version CD arrives.

I had to upgrade because I teach AC at the university. I even risked to make the above mentioned small project in AC11. Lucky me I did not start with the large one which I am finishing now!
I'm not sure how teaching a class is forcing you to use newer version for real project production? Just use AC11 during classes. Luckily both version can be installed on the same computer.

Kliment: You mentioned "Screen flickering". I don't suppose that you are using SLI cards in your machine are you? As I have suffered from the same problem. Yet it is not a problem with AC, it is a problem with the cards and the SLI Bridge. It can be solved in some cases by simply removing the cards and swapping them over. The new drivers also solve some glitches.

I decided to try AC11 with a real project myself, since I teach it to innocent students!

Screen flickering was caused by the new mouse driver I had!

I just put a machine into service with SLI Dual 512 MB GeForce Go 7950 GTX cards. I am experiencing a flicker that actually momentarily turns my screen black. I have the latest driver installed.

Are you saying to remove the graphics cards and simply switch the slots they occupy to correct the problem?

Mark: That was the advice that I received from the Nvidia SLI forums. Simply swap the 2 cards over and make sure that the SLI bridge is seated correctly. Any further problems could apparently be sorted with updated drivers. I must confess that this has not completely solved my problem. I still get a screen haze when opening certain video formats. However, I simply right click on my desktop, go to properties, then settings, lower my resolution and when prompted to keep that resolution I select "No" and the haze is gone.

If you have a more specific problem then simply google "Nvidia SLI Forums" and ask there. You have to join to get into the ongoing technical support section.
