so, we have no video tutorials of exactly how to do the AC21 railings. fine...so then how/where are the railings that I can associate to the stairs that have the "wire rails"? How can I adjust the railings to contains those "wire rails"?
(see attached image) I need the railings on the stairs which are currently associated to look like the "wire rail" on the left.....how can I accomplish this?

Well that's what I need.
How much can I pay you to get me those "Horizontal rails" and email them to me? A starbucks gift card perhaps?

Also Laura...how do you activate/trigger to get those two vertical dashed lines in the "sketch panel"? I don't see my right vertical dashed line.....only see the left one and can't seem to make/establish a "panel pattern"?

I only have the Beta release candidate version which is the INT version.
So it may have different favourites to the USA version.
Also commercial and residential templates (if you have them) may have different favourites as well.

The railing and stairs are hierarchical elements - like the curtain wall tool.
So there aren't multiple stair or railing objects as such.
There is only a set of parameters that you must adjust each time you use them.
That is why when you have something you like, save it as a favourite.
Using a favourite will set all these parameters for you.

I am hoping that Graphisoft will be able to share a lot of different favourites for the stair and railing tools for various 'generic' setups so that the users have somewhere to start editing to their specific needs.
As has been pointed out to start from scratch can be very confusing and time consuming if you don't know what you are doing (and I am certainly one of those people - there is a lot to learn).

A tip with the favourites is to go into the settings and activate "Filter Folders Automatically".
This way you will not have to browse through the entire folder structure in each tool - only the relevant folders will display.

thanks Barry.

sadly, the US AC21 version does NOT come with a "residential.tpl" file template.
Only a "Commercial.tpl" file. It seems that this release was way wa rushed. Not sure whose marketing planning at GS is expecting their design programmers to release new "releases" every 12 months....but AC21 proves...it's a bad idea. GS...you better listen to your client base or they WILL go to the other guy....even if it's not the better program, your USA user base will leave you if you don't listen to what we need. The stair tool is a very crude start and the railing tool is also.....I'm going to give it a chance...lets see if it proves me wrong....I hope.

The templates are produced by or in conjunction with the distributor for each version - GSNA for the USA version in your/my case. I'd encourage you to contact Graphisoft North America to ask them what's up with the template situation for the AC 21 USA release, as they're the ones who created the commercial template... and did not deliver a residential one unlike prior years.

I sent Rob a PM explaining this, but for everyone else's information:

A "Pattern" (the area indicated by the two vertical dashed lines) is established by the location of an Inner Post. “Inner Posts” occur within Segments; “Posts" occur at Nodes.

Laura,
You have an excellent grasp of the "Railing tool"....you should write up a help step-by-step guide. I'm sure many users to AC21 here would greatly appreciate it. Oh...and thank you for the MOD file....really.
Something is going your way via snail mail... 😉
