....and THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! GRAPHISOFT for finally fixing the correct display of SEO's on plan view!!!!!

I can't tell you how many times (even in the last few weeks) I've had to resort to the old work-around of saving a .jpg image file of the top view in Axonometric on the 3D window and then saving that image as a worksheet and then scaling it to the right size by referencing the floor plan through virtual reference and then finally using virtual reference again on the floor plan with that image to trace the correct SEO cut of a cut element just to have it display correctly on plan.
Bricklyne,
Can you tell me which feature you are referring to?
Results of SEOs shown on Floor Plan? For which elements?
I might be wrong but I am not aware of such a new feature.
Or I might just be misunderstanding something.

Turns out that it was a mistake on my part.

I saw one of the demo videos which seemed to indicate that Graphisoft had fixed the problem or bug wherein elements that had SEO operations performed on them did not show the cut at all in plan view forcing one to have to manually draw it for documentation purposes.

It seems like it was actually a Morph element they were showing with the cut since Morph elements display SEO cuts on the floor plan correctly.
For all other construction elements (walls, roofs, slabs, C/W's, etc) there is no cut shown unless you convert it into a Morph, I guess, which is kind of useless if still hope for that element to function in its intended purpose and especially if you have to modify it later on as a construction element.

So, my mistake.

We're still stuck with work-arounds to deal with that issue, I suppose.

the old work-around of saving a .jpg image file of the top view in Axonometric on the 3D window and then saving that image as a worksheet and then scaling it to the right size by referencing the floor plan through virtual reference

why don't you save the view as .2DL from the 3d window in internal engine mode? It is in vectorial format and on-scale.

I don't really want to use this thread as a venting thread or to complain since this otherwise seems like a solid release, but at the end of the day, isn't that still a work-around that involves you having to do, what the program itself should be doing automatically?
(i.e manually drawing and updating and maintaining the correct 2D representation of your documentation of the 3D model.)

SEO's have been around for almost 7 or 8 versions now, sooo....shouldn't a solution to this problem have been figured out by now?

Hi,

Is there a way to download the trial version of ArchiCAD 17 before May 30?

Thanks,
Martin

Barry.
I second what Barry said.
I am not aware of any new rendering engine being part of ArchiCAD 17.

Hello

Is Lightworks still present in AC 17 ?

[Given the proliferation and availability of lots of third-party render engines (some with even direct add-on connection to AC's 3D window for live Real-time rendering - like Maxwell Fire, and Octane), I get the impression that this probably isn't GS' priority at the moment.
]

I strongly believe that rendering SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT of ArchiCAD and that BIMx and Open GL should be merged as single interactive 3D environment with recording capabilities to show and point out to the client project features or understanding of building and environment.

I am not sure about you guys but although sounds attractive (BIMx) I would never relay on client searching model by himself without architect input and in did, during design development, model is never complete and presentable which in itself can be detrimental in efforts to communicate specific ideas or trying to explain project feature and flow of spaces. So, real time recording views or walk-thru is much more useful tool for that purpose.

Certainly new material management gives me hope that third party rendering engines (Artlantis, Octane....) will have better opportunity to be simple (mutual understanding and sharing of material definitions and objects) extension and contribution to ArchiCAD functionality.

I would like to reiterate that, in my practice, there are two distinct processes to be supported: one is design development where interactive 3D environment (integration of open GL and BIMx) is crucial and second one is a presentation of developed idea/project where rendering (Artlantis, Octane...) works the best.

Otherwise GREAT UPGRADE!!!

the priority based connections is maybe a step in the right direction, but it appears from the video that there is no option to manually revise and reconfigure the skin intersection, which is what we need to be able to accurately model and detail.

trying to get the the floor to wall priorities worked out solely based on the material priority number is not enough, even for a simple wood frame residential project. there are just too many different intersections, and what is needed is the ability to graphically reshape each skin from a variety of view including sections. AutoCAD Architecture does a pretty good job at this...
