Has been on a big promotional sale for a month or more - ending June 30:

$3750 includes one year of subscription (ArchiPlus)...the catch being that the buyer is obligated to buy years 2 and 3 of ArchiPlus as well. Details:

I was told that there is going to be a global rationalization of AC prices!!

I had hoped UK prices would be coming down to US prices.

But I rather suspect that it might be the other way round!

I was also told that the upgrade price from AC 9 to 12 after 1st of September would be £2450 thats nearly US$5000!!!!!!!

What is Archiplus? Is that the US version of the subscription system?

Renewing it at years 2 and 3 would seem to be much cheaper than paying for an upgrade. Is the AC12 offer conditional on subscribing to Archiplus in years 2 and 3?

The offer seems like a really good deal for US customers - hope it flows through to other countries (e.g. Aus).

This so called "money-saving" subscription really irks me. It's very Autodesk-like. $595 per year that I'd rather spend on something else. And it's saving me money, right? I almost took the plunge this spring but this was the dealbreaker for me. I don't want to become someone's annual revenue source. I want a good tool that I can depend on, not a subscription. And the upgrade cost shouldn't become exorbitant. How much have Archicad's costs risen? How do they compare to Revit? Vectorworks?

I was pretty annoyed when Archicad upgrades went from $695 every 18 months to $695 to every year. That's a HUGE (50%) increase in annual ownership cost. I still don't like it, since the last major upgrade was AC10, which was when they started charging more. I saw it as more cost for smaller upgrades.

Unfortunately, it just put Archicad on par with Revit for upgrade costs, so it's not like there's a BIM software with a lower cost of ownership. Check out prices on Digital Project, Tekla, or Constructor. Believe me, we could have it a lot worse.

Vectorworks is dramatically cheaper, but it is a case of getting what you pay for. It's nowhere near as developed as Archicad or Revit.

Software is moving closer to leasing a car, with nicer software costing more to lease. There are more and more programs moving to the software-as-a-service model, so it's something we may have to get used to as fewer professional-grade software are available in any other way.

I'm sure there are those who say they will vote for their wallet and they are likely to find that within a few years they just can't buy software any better than 3D Home Architect from Staples for $39.95.
