By the way, every engineer I've used for my residential remodeling projects has wanted the printed structural sheets to red line,
They haven't wanted and refuse to use a dwg or a pdf for red lining.

I don't think you have to take up a subscription when buying new, so it isn't quite correct.

The one thing I wasn't aware of was the price increase to £3000 - I thought it used to be less than £2500, and even less on subscription.

The features that immediately caught my eye were the new shadows in 3d as this could be a really useful feature - it's a shame they are not quite in real-time as it looks like they disappear when you navigate around the model; only reappearing after you have stopped moving.

The improved door and window reveals appear to be a welcome addition too - it was annoying you couldn't actually see the skins turning around openings, and the plaster skin was completely missing when viewing the model in 3d. Hopefully this is much improved.

I'm also a little disappointed there wasn't more features to help the smaller practice. There are lots of little things that could have been tweaked that would have made a big difference to the speed and general workflow. I would have happily swapped the development time taken to implement the new xyz terrain import for the introduction of subfolders in complex profiles, composites and materials, for example.

It's also interesting to note that they mention the offset feature has changed in AC14 - judging by the length and the heated nature of previous threads discussing just the offset tool, will this finally cause an all-out riot in the forums!

And one final point - do we know if the NDAs have been lifted yet? It would be interesting to hear the opinions of the power users who have actually used the software.

Here in NZ, subscription is not compulsory on new licenses, but with the pricing structure, the cost of a new license with subscription is NZ$1000.00 cheaper than without. So why not get two releases for the price of one. Same at Autodesk.

I agree with you Peter, where by there are many little things that would improve every day work, that GS should have been implementing on the last three releases to keep the majority of users at least listened to.

Autodesk offers 50% off for Archicad users here in NZ. Have you got a quote recently?

Another new info from this article:
"users can expect important procedures such as generating door schedules to improve by five to six times".
This seems to me very important, if your workflow integrates schedules not only for output but also for modeling, quality control,etc, specially if you work with medium to big to very big models.
Five to six times faster is not a small feat, and denounces some serious rewriting of code, I would suspect.
Nevertheless, this alone will warrant an upgrade for people who use schedules on a regular basis, and if you don't use them, then you are not using ArchiCAD to it´s full potential.

You obviously haven't used Door and Window builder. Those who have, have had this since V12, and probably still way better than the integrated one. Of course to use the integrated one the actual doors and windows need to work first.

I was under the impression that the NDA was finished when AC 14 was released. Was released here in NZ on the 1st. So where are all the beta testers with all the fine details of this fantastic release. The silence is deafening.
